McAnuff is not my choice for the stand in captain...He does not inspire me, he's greedy and only puts in a shift when he want to.

Could be the reason why McAnuff has had so many clubs who have moved him on!!

I think thats slightly unfair on Jobi actually, he's been ineffective going forward a few too many games this season but he always puts in a shift, always does his defensive duties (much better than 95% of wingers), is happy for the manager to play him anywhere and doesn't complain, doesn't disrespect the officials unlike some of the replacements we've had in this squad (Howard, Mills) and makes a clear effort to help the younger players on and off the pitch. He does seem to sulk a bit when things dont go his way sometimes but that isn't a reason to withold the captaincy and I think he's one of the better choices for captain within our squad. Seems to think pretty highly of the club too.

Although he's not been as effective as last season, he's played every game and filled in very well in positions he's not accustomed to, so I have no problem with McAnuff as captain, as a player and I hope he doesn't get snapped up in January as we'll miss him.

prostak He seems popular, has spoken about the obligation of older players to mentor the younger, and seems to play better when he feels valued. Given that the captain's role is limited to calling a largely irrelevant coin toss, I can't see many reasons not to give him the job.

+1. I actually think he's been one of our better players recently, and in the games where we've been below par (Leeds, QPR etc) he's been the only one that's stood out trying to get forward. IMO his problem is that he pays the price for not being Kebe.

Since when is the best player captain? Surely that ends at about under-13 level?

Jobi's certainly one of the most intelligent players in the team, with one of the sharpest footballing brains there - and that's fine by me.

Gunny Fishcake Has there ever been a less inspirational woeful captain in Reading FC's long history than McAnuff who had the honour today against Leeds ?

Mills.
