Never say never but personally think there is more chance of QPR NOT finishing 1st than us getting into the top 6

The moment Bellamy scored the Cardiff equaliser in the 5th minute of added time earlier this Month, our realistic chance of getting in the play-offs ended.

An inability to keep clean sheets, win enough games at home or score enough goals to turn some of the 14/15 draws into wins have cost us this season. During the Summer, these issues have to be addressed for us to have any chance of mounting a challenge next season.

As for the last 12 games, its pretty academic but for the record, my guesses are:

Middlesbrough H D
Ipswich Town A D
Preston H W
Barnsley A W
Portsmouth H L
Nottm Forest A L
Scunthorpe A D
Leicester City H L
Leeds United A L
Sheffield Utd H W
Coventry City A D
Derby County H W

64 points; a 10th - 12th place finish.

losing at home to Pompey MrA?

guess you've been here before too

No doubt Kitson to score the only goal from a Halford throw-in...Sonko to give away a penalty, Ashdown to save it.

Really looking forward to this game though

Middlesbrough H W 2-0
Ipswich Town A W 1-0
Preston H W 2-1
Barnsley A D 1-1
Portsmouth H D 1-1
Nottm Forest A D 2-2
Scunthorpe A W 3-0
Leicester City H W 1-0
Leeds United A D 1-1
Sheffield Utd H W 5-1
Coventry City A W 2-1
Derby County H W 3-0

If the team is at the top of their form I can see us getting these results. Ipswich Town is very beatable there, their home record right now is 7-2-7. Forest is unbeaten at home so far so a point would be massive in that fixture. Leeds has been beatable at home too with an 8-5-4 record there but still a point would be good value.

If the results pan out the way I can foresee them going we would/could end up with 76 pts. But this is a funny game, football. Bottom line is we've struggled mightily getting wins against teams above us and played to the level of the opposition below us. Fortunately for us we only have 2 games left with teams above us. But I can easily see the Forest and Leeds games both being losses while some of the home wins which I've projected could easily be draws. The play-offs are still there for the taking if we can recapture last season's second half form. Big IF though...

Wimb So it's crunch time. 12 games to go and we sit 10th with 48 points, and at our current pace good enough for 65 points this year, which would be a 2 point improvement on last season.

I think the real crunch time is Tuesday - it was the cup wins that really lifted the team last season and if we beat Everton I think it would make all the difference to the league form for the next few games and that is the only way we could gain momentum and make the playoffs.

Agree, not beating Cardiff and Leighterwood's subsequent 3 game ban all but ended our playoff hopes

For all the fact that you are effectively right, we are still just about hanging in there enough to be in with a shot if we actually played up properly to our potential. We are capable of putting in a run of good performances... of course it won't happen.... the mindset isn't there at the moment. But all it takes is something to click.

Agreed and it is definitely "in our hands". Like you I think we'll miss out but
I fancy it might be a close run thing. I just think Burnley will finish above us
and that means even if we did manage 2 ppg we would still probably be 7th/8th.

I say in our hands, though "theoretically" 1-2 of Leicester, Leeds, Hull, Burnley
COULD go on an amazing run of wins, because if we beat Leicester and Leeds
and overall get that 2 points per game we will finish above both of them.

But not Burnley.

01 34 36 67 QPR
02 34 18 62 Swansea
03 34 17 61 Cardiff
04 34 12 59 Norwich
05 33 16 58 Nott'm Forest
06 34 07 54 Leeds
07 34 00 52 Leicester
08 32 10 50 Burnley
09 34 03 49 Hull
10 34 12 48 Reading

I said elsewhere that if you ignore Burnley's results against us they look a class different

P 30 15 50 Burnley
P 32 07 42 Reading

I DO know that you can't ignore 2 games, but what I mean is that against the rest of the league they have 50 points from 30
on target for 74 from 44 (plus their two losses to us). They must hate Reading FC as without us they'd be

Burnley P30 W13 D11 L6 48-33 50 Points

and looking good for 74

Astoundingly I do think we still have an outside chance of the play offs.

If you look at the teams we have played in the last 11 games they have included 8 of the top 12.

We only have 3 of the top 12 to play in Leicester, Leeds and Forest - who have all been inconsistent recently - so these games are still winnable.

The next 4 games are huge. There is no excuse for us not winning the two home games and Barnsley and Ipswich are beatable - so if we did get 4 wins in a row then the play offs could very much be back on again.

Basically we probably need 9 wins or 8 wins and 3 draws from 12 to give us 75 points. A tall order but possible against the opposition we have left.

As the podcast guys so rightly pointed out in their last show, the issue isn't as much that they're winnable games. It's just we've had these 'winnable' games all season and failed, of course they CAN do it, but as Snowball himself would probably be forced to admit, we HAVEN'T been at that level of consistency all season.
