Thanks for sharing and sorry for you loss.

I really hope the lads can do it to avoid heart break for you at Wembley and give you something to celebrate that you know your dad would be over the moon about.

Aubery Boyce After a short illness my dad passed away on Sunday AM aged 65.

...

Gutted he wasnt around to see it last night and gutted he wont see us at Wembley again.

...

But pleased as punch the the team pulled out a performance like that last night when I needed it most! Fingers crossed they can do me and dad proud at Wembley too! :-)

URZZZ.

Not too dissimilar situation for me mate so trust me when I say I know what it's like and have every sympathy for you.

I believe my dad is around to see these things and is always with me at every match so last night was sweet.

But remember mate not to put too much significance on what is after all just a football match just incase we don't get the right result. In the early days I used to do that and it would hurt ten times more when we lost. Now I'm just happy when we win for my dad's sake and mine and if we lose I don't take it too much to heart and just look forward to the next time we win.

Sorry if this sounds in any way insensitive I'm just trying to soften the blow should we not get the right result at Wembley mate. All the best.

RIP your dad.

Aubery Boyce At the end of the Leicester game in the 106 year, I rang him and simply held my phone up in the air so he could hear the celebrations and general melee as that was the next best thing to him being there.

Did just the same thing for my old man, happily he is still very much with us and will be at Wembley. Great post AB, bet that your dad is as proud of you as he is of his team.

Wonderful, wonderful post AB and genuinely moved. My Mum passed away in 2009 and was a Royal through and through. She would have been head over heels about last night and there will be a small part of her there on 30th May.

I hope your Dad will be looking down on Wembley and we get the win for him.

Just think Ark / AB - when you are at the P/O final at the very least you are there with your mums/dads thoughts in your heart.
A very poignant moment for all connected with the clubs history. Past, present and future.

Can we make this post a sticky? Times like these don't come too often, and there is amazing hope tinged (for some) with a sadness that it can't be shared with someone who was a passionate Royals fan.

Top top passionate post from Aubrey, thanks for sharing your loss and RIP. Your dad would have been proud of both you and the team last night.

I don't want to deflect attention away from Aubrey, but I immediately thought of Stewart McEwan, the 13 year old who was on our books as a schoolboy who died in 2008. He would have been as excited as any of us today. Football brings us together. Our club brings us together. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-mid-wales-11887408

Aubery Boyce After a short illness my dad passed away on Sunday AM aged 65. He was a lifelong Royals fan having started to attend matches in the 50s as a small boy and was as obsessed with the club as much when he died as he ever was.

I spent my early childhood being told stories of Robin Friday, Steve Death, Maurice Edleston, Steve Hetzke, Neil Webb, Kerry Dixon, to name but a few. He absolutley loved Reading Football Club.

When i was old enough to see over the South Bank wall, he managed to persuade my mum to be allowed to take me too. I'm sure he'd never realise that he was directly responsible from that moment on for my total and utter obsession with Football and in particular the Royals. First game was in Oct 84. 2nd game was the Fireworks night match v NZ with George Best, Martin Peters, Steve Death and the Hofmeister Bear to name but a few!!

We were regulars in the old Family Enclosure at the Tilehurst end of the South Bank in the mid-late eighties, as well as the odd away game when he got permission from the Duchess and when he could skip out of work!

Ill health and mobiliity issues had meant he could no longer attend games but we chatted after every single game for me to de-brief him on the match, who had played well, who was rubbish, general nonsense really.

At the end of the Leicester game in the 106 year, I rang him and simply held my phone up in the air so he could hear the celebrations and general melee as that was the next best thing to him being there.

Anyway point is.... Last nights game meant so much to me. He would have absolutley loved watching that on TV, ringing me to discuss and annoying my mum by insisting watching it again this morning no doubt. I had so many texts from people saying they were thinking of him knowing how pleased he would have been.

Gutted he wasnt around to see it last night and gutted he wont see us at Wembley again.

But pleased as punch the the team pulled out a performance like that last night when I needed it most! Fingers crossed they can do me and dad proud at Wembley too! :-)

URZZZ.

Sorry for your loss, Boycey. Let's hope we can win at Wembley. I'm sure your Dad will be there with you.

Sorry to hear about the loss of your Dad. Its a day that many of us dread when we lose our nearest and dearest. Great post which sums up the father/son relationship when it comes to sport so well.

Lost my dad last june, just know how delighted he will be that we made Wembley again. Sat with tears in eyes reading that post AB, I feel sure that our dads and mums will be with the team at Wembley, whether in person or from afar.

Fully agree about football being more than a business, I often think that JM knows that as well, but is fighting against a tidal wave that cannot be beaten.

RIP AB's dad.
