Do not see a relegation scrap on the cards for this group of players to be honest. More to the point, if we sell we can reinvest. We'd have made a few bob out of cup runs and this final so the 'black hole' won't be quite as large as our post parachute payment summer of 2010.

Long will probably go but we'll get a decent fee out of him, turning a £4 million+ profit on a 50k throw in is a great bit of business really, and don't forget his sizeable wages will also be freed up for transfer fees/contracts.

Kebe is also probably going and while he's been magical at times, he's also struggled with injuries and consistency. He made 34 starts in the Championship this year and again if you can get a big profit on someone you invested £500k in than credit to the club.

Those two are the players we can't really replace in house right now but otherwise I don't see a significant quality drop off. Federici might go but McCarthy has already shown he's good enough for this level and another summer away with the U21's can only help him going forward. Matt Mills has improved over the season but Alex Pearce has also stepped up and by all accounts Sean Morrison is a class act, not to mention an England U19 defender in Jack Mills.

Even if we signed nobody in the summer would the following be so appalling?

McCarthy
Cummings
Pearce
Morrison
Harte
HRK
Leigertwood
Karacan
McAnuff
Hunt
Church

Not the best but at the WORST case scenario that team is going to do enough to finish midtable.

+1 The melodrama on here is pathetic. We'd have all snapped your hand off for this season in Aug. Some people need a grip on reality. Pretty much every other championship club that didn't go up will have PL clubs sniffing around. Deal with it.

I did actually. After 90 mins I was pretty proud of BM & his team for what they've done & gave them a huge clap as opposed to spitting feathers about which players are going. Get a grip you div. Why exactly do you support RFC given your level of expectation?

LOL relegation - the team spirit under BM is immense. There's just no way that would happen. Fcuk me glass is totally bone dry with you!

Can't you just take a step back & appreciate what BM has achieved?

Not going up was always going to result in player movements.....can you hand on heart tell me that in Feb the situation wasn't exactly the fcuking same?!

Lost gylfis 20+ goals... Soon to lose longs.. I don't see how you can replace that fire power on a shoe string, we certainly haven't got a replacement in house. Plus lose the huge threat that is Jimmy... Bumpy is the only ride we're in for

Long has a clause in his contract that if we don't go up he can go for £5.5m i think.

he is as good as gone, as is Kebe as he only has 12 months left on his contract.

Celtic will have to splash £4m if they want to sign Reading striker Long

Reading owner Sir John Madejski warned Celtic they will have to pay top dollar for Shane Long after confirming Neil Lennon's No 1 summer signing target will leave the Championship play-off losers.
Long, who scored 25 goals in 51 games over the season, was watched by Lennon and his assistant Alan Thompson at Wembley on Monday as Reading's Premier League promotion dreams were shattered in a 4-2 defeat to Swansea.
At the final whistle, the ambitious 24-year-old signalled his intentions to leave to avoid another season in the Championship but, with a year left on his contract, Madejski warned Celtic they will not get the £4million-rated Irishman on the cheap.
'I'm aware of Celtic's interest in Shane Long,' Madejski said. 'Neil Lennon has been watching him for three games now. He's been at our past two games and he was here again. We are still to hear anything official from Celtic but it's obvious they are interested.
'How confident am I we can ward off Celtic's interest? Not very.

'It's sad that we didn't get promoted because Shane would have liked to stay at Reading if we had reached the Premier League. But that has changed because we will be in the Championship.'
Should Lennon land his top strike target, Madejski believes he will be getting a player who will take the SPL by storm.
He added: 'Shane is world-class. What is the value I would place on him? £20m. Now we will just have to see what happens with him.
'As well as being a great player, he's a lovely lad. If Celtic are to land him, they will be privileged indeed because he's just a super player and a super individual.
'He has all the right credentials to go to the very top of the game. He's hard working and extremely cool in front of goal. I don't know if he will end up at Celtic but what is certain is that he will not be at Reading next season.'

Parkhead defender Darren O'Dea has played with Long for both the Republic and Reading and insists he has come on leaps and bounds since breaking through as a teenager.
O'Dea, who will now do his best to sell the club to Long on the international trip to Macedonia this week, said: 'I don't need to tell you how good he is.
'We came away with Ireland when we were 16 and that was the first time I had seen him.
'To say he has come on from that is an understatement. He was raw to say the least but he's just getting better and better.'
Lennon, meanwhile, will be interested in developments at home after Sportsmail learned Beram Kayal has sacked his long-term agent in a quest to secure a bumper new pay deal.
