2 world wars, 1 world cup I think footballers are really the scum of the earth but I'm hoping Long has more of a sense of loyalty.

I've stayed in my job despite the high probability of being able to move on to jobs giving me 150% more salary because my company trained me up, they're decent folk, I like them, they've been good to me and was it not for them I'd not be where I am now.

I would be thoroughly disappointed in Long who had the worst record as a striker I remember in my 29 years of supporting the Royals with all those games with a shocking inability to score from open play and dare I say it, that cost us possibly autopro. He was shockingly bad yet we stuck with him. I'm glad we did. BM knew there was potential there. And I like the guy. Even liked him when he was Mr Zero. But for Long to just leave at the drop of a hat because it happens to be a Prem side would p*ss me off a little after what we did for him. I seriously hope he factors this in and does the right thing and stay with us.

But then we have to think of Madejski who would sell his own soul for money if he could.

*awaits abuse*

*no abuso*...

but prepare to be disappointed. Footballers get dropped, farmed out on loan, forced out of clubs all the time. Loyalty seldom works the other way round, so why Shane should feel he owes us anything I don't know. His goals this season were the payback. Now he's earned his chance to play at a higher level (or, failing that, move to Celtic).

LOL!

agree with the feelings, but theres no such thing as loyalty in football any more

as to be demonstrated by shane long leaving the club that dragged him up from coming free with doyle to where he is now, and the manager who scouted him, and put him up in his house for months when he first came over.

if that shizzle dont make you stay, nothing ever will

The on ly thing that this thread lacks are reams and reams of utterly meaningless statistics; if it had those, it would be the ultimate Team Board thread.....

also- in shanes favour- he spent most of the last few seasons, and this one in particular getting a near constant slagging from our"fans", then he suddenly scores a few and everyones up has arse.

loyalty is a two way street people, and we dont deserve his

I do not understand why people go on so much about loyalty. Professional footballers have a short career, and in most cases a 10 year period where their earning potential is at their highest. I don't blame the lad for trying to get as much out of his short career, especially when his stock is so high. He could secure the contract that sets him up for life, and if I was in his position I would do the same. Loyalty does not pay the bills.

Considering what we signed him for, getting anything over £3.5M would be great business for the club, especially for 6 good months in 6 years.
