I can just about toler8 shirts adorned with faceless corporate sponsors and the stands themselves carrying the name of whichever firm wants to get on the bandwagon.....but surely football fandom must partly be about identity, the home ground is 'our' little fortress and to have it named Prudential Park or some godforsaken tie-in. Just horrible, and it is surely one step away from the club itself being renamed 'Miscrosoft Reading FC' or whatever.

Endearment to the name of a Stadium comes over time so if it gets chopped and changed everytime the deal runs out then it's never going to become part familiar. Let's face it also - Newcastle are always going to play at St James' Park, giving it a corporate name and a fancy logo won't change that.

I'm getting quite fond of/used to "Madejski Stadium" but on the whole naming a stadium after a person is more a posthumous thing, however that does beg the question what would they have called it until such times as SJM does pop his cloggs

I'm not a big fan of clubs selling off the naming rights for existing grounds but, although I hate the Mad Stad nickname, I'm quite happy with the current name and all it stands for.

Places like St James being renamed is a bit of a shame as the soul and identity of the club is vitally important but, as long as the fans maintain the name in their own usage I couldn't really care what Sky or the club website want to call the place.

St James' is part of the clubs history and should not have been changed. Equally we've had time to get used to The Madejski, and I think keeping the name forever would be a fitting tribute to a man who has done so much for our club (whatever your views may be of him now).

I don't mind naming rights on new stadiums though. If there's no history/tradition it's not so controversial, and let's be honest, it doesn't take long for the corporate name to sound almost normal.

Eg Liberty Staium, Ricoh Arena....
