Alan Partridge
Gordons Cumming A career in the media beckons..................

Christ. him and Leroy are utterly woeful on Late Kick Off. That show is the absolute pits.

B-Mac's replacement........

If you think that's the pits, you clearly haven't seen the Football League Show.

Terminal Boardom

Rugby-tackling the lion was the high point of his Reading career.

I will tell you something. Had Leroy Rosenior played for the club before Murty, everyone would have been raving about him. That Rosenior had to follow a legend like Murty, well - nigh on impossible. I would say that Andy Griffin when he came on loan was a better full back than Murts. Positional sense was superb and never caught out of position. But considering that 95% of HNA? has been sired by Murts I expect bucket loads of abuse.

I'd be interested to listen to reasoned arguments (like I said, i was never a big fan of Murty) but I'm afraid I have to say Murty for RFC >>>> Griffin for RFC.

In fact, i'll stick my neck out and say RFC have never had a better right-back than Mr Murty

Seeing as Leroy was a striker I am not sure how he can be compared to Murty

Apart from the obvious fact that Murts couldn't score in a brothel

Once again showing your remarkable judgement.

RobRoyal Really? I know he had an awful start to his Reading career but after he came back it didn't appear that he had lost anything. To go on and lead a team to a record second-tier points haul and 8th in the prem seems like a damn sucessful career to me. I would imagine the reason he ended up playing at right-back had little to do with his injuries and more to do with someone (Pardew?) identifying that it might be his best position. His subsequent career would suggest he wasn't far wrong.

Solid technique and defensive awareness, a cool head and great leadership qualities. Rarely let anyone down. Walks in to the Reading FC hall of fame.

^^This. Spot on.

Swales did well to win that honour, considering he was a left back.

Even I know that's wrong. The only plausible in candidate in my memory would be Bernal.

Agreed, Skippy was no-nonsense but effective. Plus his peeking skillz are second to none.

Didn't Murty cost £750k or something crazy? And didn't it take him over 2 years to actually break into the squad after they found he had one leg much shorter than the other?

Murts is one of my all-time favourite Reading players - and a gentleman off the pitch.
