If we go up 1994>2006>1986>2002>2012. This season has been pretty awful for 30 games and just cant rank above any other promotion season. It just seems like everyone else has gone backwards whilst we haven't.

The standard this year overall is the worst i have known at this level. Its miles behind last year. Just compare Swansea last year to Brighton this year? No contest.

Agree with OP. This will top 2006 for me.

Purely because it is so unexpected & also because it's just happened so quickly over the last 3 months. Pardew had started building something special with us & it wasn't completely out of the blue. Most of us thought top 10 would be good & if we got lucky maybe sneak into 5/6th place. I'm guessing we'd have all taken 6th back in August when Long was sold.

The spirit in the camp seems equal to that of 2006 & for me this team is tactically better. They all know what to do & they do it.

For us to bounce back from the play-off final & dust ourselves off so quickly despite losing Long is remarkable.

I personally don't think the 'standard of the league' comes into it when talking about general enjoyment.

I am really enjoying this season - partly because I never dreamed in a zillion years we'd have a shot at automatic. Didn't see us challenging for top 2 at all over the next few seasons TBH.

Also Brian is a massive reason as to why I'm enjoying it. Best manager we've ever had (IMO).

2006 will NEVER be eclipsed, this season is special in different way however, creeping up the league as the season goes on with the promise land in site as well as the anticipation of having more money to spend and a better chance of actually consolidating ourselves as a established premier league club!

What if we beat the points total? That would be some team!

We'd need to be given something like a bonus 10 points AND win all our remainging games. So it's pretty unlikely.

I'm not sure I understand how that could make 2012 better than 2006

I guessed that, but there was an opportunity for sarcasm so I took it.

I think we can all safely agree that if we get 107+ points in any Championship season (or 106 & 100+ goals) then it will have been right up there with 2006.

Can you imagine - three teams steamroller the rest to such an extent that 107 is only third.

That would rank right up there with finishing second and not getting promoted ..............

I guess I am more excited because its completely unexpected. Plus I guess there's more cause for optimism in that IF we did go up, we could actually compete & stay there for a few years hopefully.

We ought to be aiming to be a yo-yo club now ala West Brom really.

Hopefully we can do a Stoke though!

How can we be more optimistic than when we went up with the best team EVER to grace the second tier ?

A number of clubs (QPR being the best example) have spent a lot and still can't guarantee being competitive.

Being the best team in the 2nd tier means f all in the PL I'm afraid.

The new owners will allow Brian to be competitive in the transfer market & Brian is a better manager and will freshen things up if needed.

IMO staying up is almost totally dependent on very shrewd signings. Brian's a wiz with the relatively cheap deals. But this is also the man who was in charge of our scouting when we signing Halford, Fae, Cisse, Kebe, Rosenior & Matejovsky to keep us up. Half of which weren't good enough for this level. So it'll be a test for him.

2006 we had a super team and all the momentum in the world, so comfortably staying up was always fairly likely regardless of our signings IMO. Just think how we'd have done if Kits hadn't got nobbled by Boro. We'd have definitely made Europe.

Monster - being the best team in the Chumpionship means F-all I agree. Being the best ever team in the second tier is very meaningful.

Course it was. I doubt anyone will ever do we what we did that year EVER. Just magical.

But this season we've shown grit, spirit & majorly big bollox. Loving it :D

2006 was so special because it was the first time, and we did it with such style. I don't think that can be eclipsed, however well this year's crop have done. It's just a totally different season in all aspects.
