Sensible comments Finch and accurate to boot, you obviously know your onions, I do agree that Cummings is a little static on attacking the space, that I believe is inexperience which as you rightly say may be remedied with a loan spell at say Championship level again.

But we do play a lob sided Full Back formation in respect that Harte has more licence to go forward and maybe because Legs covers that side Harte is more attacking minded. Maybe Cummings has been instructed to hold position and pass up to Kebe as Kebe does drift inside and plays more freely rather than positioned.

Very similar to the 106 team when Murts sat back and Shorey pushed on, I think we both agree that the lad has potential though and hopefully he will achieve it

Anyone who can't see that he is the Apollo to Kebe's Zeus should be shot.

I would say Murty had better attacking instincts than Cummings has currently - probably because Murty was a winger originally, plus he was in his prime in 06.

But yes, Cummings definitely has potential, and will make a good career for himself on the back of his defensive abilities alone. But unless he improves on the ball, and going forward, he will struggle to make much of an impact beyond Championship level IMO.

I think his passing was atrocious last night but I'd put that down to nerves getting the better of him rather than a lack of passing ability because his passing is generally pretty decent and composed. Like Schards its also always been a bugbear of mine about his lack of overlapping runs and general lack of ideas when/if he gets into the opposition third.

That said, he really is a terrific full back defensively. One on One he's excellent and unlike most modern full backs he cuts out far more crosses than get past him. He's also pretty quick, brave when he needs to be and getting a lot better in the air as well.

Of all the players that have featured regularly this season I reckon he has the most scope for further improvement. If he can add the attacking side to his already very accomplished defensive game then he's easily good enough for a regular starting place in a Premiership team.

He's got a wicked cross on him and can take on a player when he does get forward but I think he is instructed to be more conservative and stay back unless Jimmy needs the option because our centre backs haven’t got much pace and having Cummings too far forward leaves us at risk of a quick counter-attack. Kebe can beat his man singlehandedly so Cummings is only really needed in an attacking sense on the odd occasion.

Stick Bertrand or another in the defence to add more pace and we can afford for him to be more adventurous as he has the talent.

Not really part of his game, but would love for him to score last match of the season. Can he take a penalty?

Really thought he was going to notch last night as he ran onto the ball about 25 yards out but it ended up being a shinner

I've seen him go on a couple of runs (notably against Palace) and thought if only he could do that more often but I also don't think that Jimmy's positioning helps Cummings as he tends to come short rather than pulling the fullback away and so closes the space available. That said they do seem to be cultivating an understanding from throw-ins with the short pass triangles between themselves and A.N.Other

dariusz He's terrible on the ball and just panics every time he gets it and lob wedges up the line aimlessly. Can guarantee if it's not Connolly it'll be somebody else taking his place next year. As soon as we had money, striker and right bk were the first positions addressed and rightly so!

Wasn't RB addressed because he was injured and Griff, bless him, is on the way out...

I think you lot have covered it all really - massively improved, very good 1 v 1 (doesn't really dive in), but really doesn't offer enough going forward. With two full-backs who never overlap we are limiting our options in a way the 05/06 team didn't.

Still, pleased for SC as he's obvs worked hard and seems a decent chap as well.

that may come when our style doesnt consist of soaking up loads of pressure for 90% of the game, and both wingers spending half of their time defending

I'm not sure we'll be adopting a more attacking and game controlling approach in the Premier League Brendy. Defend hard and hit 'em on the break is probably what we'll be doing whether we want to or not.

oh im sure it will. in fact im sure its pretty much perfect for a team like ours in the top flight
im just saying his reluctance to get forward may not be to do with his mental state, or ability
