Extended-Phenotype A big NO to Harte being an understudy.

Depends on who else we might get in at LB, surely?

He was in the division team of the season for crying out loud!
Surely that means he's good enough for the premier league.
Totally deserved in my opinion, will look forward to some great free kicks flying into the top corner (via a deflection!)

Erm... no.

He might be, but being picked in the division team of the year has nothing to do with it.

I'm chuffed we have offered Harte a new deal.

I think he brings undoubted experience and his form in particular the last few months of the season is definatly good enough for most games in the Prem.

Saying this, I will be very very suprised if we don't make a decent £1mill+ left back signing this summer.

Particularly as this is the same PFA that chose Jason Koumas ahead of Glen Little, Kevin Nolan ahead of Gylfi Sigurdsson...

Oh....good grief....

.......and our recent upsurge and his PFA vote , has obviously coincided with him being one of our first team starters........and therefore noticed by the peers that have failed to deal with him....and have rightly voted for him

Start him in the Prem...he can do a Delap, but with shoes on his hands

Awesome news Harte has a new contract. Def think he should be first choice LB this season.

hope this means we get rid of mills, cut the wage bill and get rid of him! Quite clear we will be signing a better LB to slot in with harte as cover

Snowball After the penalty today Harte has scored 5 goals this season, must be first choice next year.

Agree. People got carried away with Mills' pace at a time when he came in to the team as cover for a massively out of form Ian Harte. But pace was all he had.

When Harte got his act together, Mills lack of any basic skill (my 9 yr old can pass better) and match craft were all to plain to see.

Mills always looked nervous on the ball and would then give the ball away with a hopeless long ball. It was worth a punt at the time, especially when money was hard to come by, but he doesn't have a future here any longer.

When he first came into the team, yes, but then he gained in confidence immensely, was overlapping well, putting good balls into the box, and he was more than adequate defensively. As usual though, he got injured and McDermott preferred experience to promise.

I agree with you. Mills is alright, and cheap. Gives us another option.
Presumably they (mills and harte) spend a fair amount of time training together, so hopefully harte can help to prime mills into an even better left back.
Everyone keeps going on about the size of our squad, but many of them are through the academy and/or free signings. It's definitely worth keeping the younger players on, as they'll improve, especially with premier league experience

Harte was probably our best player today along with Legs. Apart from the penalty

Just seen Harte's penalty on Sky and agree that it should have been retaken as Doyle was way of his line even before Harte took it.
