Taylor did indeed look a class act for Peterborough.

Rather than focus on a single error from Feds, my lasting concerns from last night revolve more around the defence in front of him....

Perhaps it's to do with playing a slightly different system, but on a number of occasions the Gorkks/Pearce and Karacan/Leigertwood just appeared to stop and look at one another not knowing who should be shutting the Posh players down (for one of Feds saves in the second half a huge gap opened in front of the back four with three Posh players in acres of space any of which could have taken a shot unchallenged)...

We seem to really need to do some work on who's doing what in that area of the pitch (oddly it seemed to work much better against Chelsea in the week).

Feds - 6 - One obvious mistake (although there was a fair bit of power in the shot), otherwise he kept us in the game after some serious defensive errors...
Harte - 6 - A quiet night, varying quality of set pieces, defensively OK
Gunter - 7 - a much better game for Gunter - really excited by the prospect of seeing him and McLeary this season - they link up superbly
Pearce - 5 - a pretty poor performance by his standards
Gorkks - 5 - as per Pearce - as noted above, both centre backs seemed to suffer from a lack of understanding with the defensive midfield.
McAnuff - 6 - unspectacular, but pretty solid. Unlucky not to pick up a carbon copy of the freekick against Chelsea in the second half, but that's the only major contribution I remember him having
McLeary - 9 - by far the best player on the pitch - looked a threat pretty much every time he got on the ball and barely put a foot wrong all night. Can only assume he picked up a knock to be subbed
Karacan - 5 - with Leigertwood seemed to be at the heart of a number of incidents where they seemed confused as to who was supposed to be doing what.
Leigertwood - 6 - perhaps contributed a bit more going forward than Karacan, but again, needs to work with the back four to work out this system
Guthrie - 8 - (oops knew I'd missed someone) - really excited by him, he picked out some great passes and as someone else said, is working some great triangles with McLeary / Pog - let's hope he can keep this up
Pogrebnyak - 8 - struggled for the first ten minutes with a surprisingly poor first touch (ball seemed to keep bouncing off him), but once he got in the game he improved significantly and looked a real threat

Tabb - 7 - replaced Karacan and I've got to say we seemed much more solid defensively once he came on - should be pushing Jem for a start IMO
Hunt - 7 - not sure why Brain chose to play him on the left and switch Jobi to the right (Hunt had a couple of good performances for us last year on the right), and struggled to get into the game, but was very unlucky to have his shot pushed onto the post late on, in a move largely created by him in the first place

Interestingly, Hammond was talking to Taylor's agent after the game at the side of the dugout. But Taylor and Boyd are supposed to be off to Ipswich for £1.75m

he had a problem stoping shots- he solved it
he then had a problem at his near post- he solved it
he was never any good at claiming crosses- but last year became at least decent at doing so
he will sort out the current letting balls roll under him problem too

Just seen the highlights, lol at Pearce just staring in disbelief at Feds after their second. Obviously lost all faith in him.

hardly surprising, sooner or later this is going to start killing the motivation of the other players.
Why should they put a massive effort into beating the likes of chelsea or any other team, only to have their efforts thwarted by a horrible goalkeeping mistake?
Sooner or later they'll start thinking that there's no point in trying as long as the goalkeeper will let in anything from 50 yards out.

From behind (North end of the Upper West), for their second it seemed Feds was covering his near post and the ball slipped under his right arm as it was struck (at pace) across the face of the goal from inside the six yard box.....had he not made mistakes against Stoke and Chelsea, I wonder how many people would be calling it a goalkeeping error. I suspect that more would be concerned at the lack of pace from Gorkks in allowing the shot in the first place....

Incidentally the first resulted from Gorkks/Pearce going for the same ball, then Pearce running round like a headless chicken whilst Gorkks backed off and didn't make any effort to close down the shot - defensively awful....

If we must have scapegoats following last nights game then I reckon Gorkks/Pearce deserve that treatment significantly more than Feds.....

The first doesn't look too harsh on Feds, but i was right behind the goal/shot and it went under his arm.....

Er yeah, let's not pretend mistakes aren't mistakes. Defend Feds right to be first choice, fair enough. But people are offering little credibility to their argument making sh/t up.

Stoke 1, Chelsea 2, Peterborough 2. Five mistakes in three games. That's f/cking poor by anyone's standards. Not sure if Gunter would be allowed to have given 5 penalties away. He's a great keeper, but he's hit a patch that, for his sake and ours, he's better off getting over it on the bench rather than making things worse.

Bit harsh to say Feds made two mistakes against Chelsea. One thing I did notice was that he didn't move so much as an inch off his line for Lampard's penalty. Pretty poor - you see the likes of Reina stepping out and springing forward but Fed just made it easy for Lampard.

Anyways, first one last night looked like a clean strike but the second was poor. I'd be asking the defence question though - one long ball and the guy's through on goal. Shambles.
