All 3 games are winnable, but unfortunately all 3 teams are strong in attack which means the goals we score will probably be outweighed by the goals we will concede. BMC is brave 'n' all, but we need to be more defensive. If we get in the lead, then DEFINITELY go more defensive.

3-3 draw
2-2 draw
4-2 loss

Ian Royal I'd like to see us playing 2 upfront against all but the really big boys, but given our formation against Posh it's looking more likely we'll go with 1 up, even though we've conceeded 6 goals in two games in that formation.

I suspect that the reason he played that formation against P'boro was more to do with getting the system bedded in, than an indication of what he'll do in every game in the PL.
Brian has never taken the League Cup very seriously, I think that he probably used Tuesday as little more than a "training session", hence starting such a strong team whereas in previous years he's played the kids.
6 goals conceded in 2 is a little misleading - you can put the Torres goal and Chelseas fourth as anomalies - but 4 in two does show that we do need to work on this formation....as I've said elsewhere, the communication between the centre of defence and the deep midfield definitely needs some work...

I'd be more inclined to put Ivanovic and Cahill's as anomalies... we'll conceed more offside goals this year judging by the usual quality of officials.

sandman I prefer to concentrate on the Reading first team giving the Champions of Europe a fright in the Premier League last week rather than a match in the second round of the league cup against a lower league team

But it was the same group of players? Are you suggesting they weren't taking the CoC seriously? After the way we played against Chelsea, we should have, rightfully, expected to demolish a team like Peterborough.

Why would we demolish a team who gave us a lot of trouble last season, just because we gave Chelsea a fright, are PL and signed a couple of new players?

Fundamental lack of understanding of football there.

Oh bore off. I'm sure I'm not the only person who thinks the same.

There are plenty of people who put forward ideas without actually thinking and aren't very bright all the time, certainly.
