Think Mcderm got it wrong tactically going 4-5-1 at home, we looked flat, less than average giving spurs all the time on the ball to do as they pleased.

Can't quite understand why Harte is in the team especially when first half guthrie ended up taking a corner, if he is not even going to take the set pieces why is he playing he for sure cant defend and has been found out in every game to date!

Pog looked too good for our team, really stood out beyond the rest and is clearly a cut above them based on that performance.

Still it is Spurs we played who i thought bossed what seemed like a training game for them.

Be interesting to see how we react next week

Do not agree! Pog needed to stay on his feet, was looking for fouls all game!

Agreed that the formation didn't work at all but I'm guessing the two tossers in front of me wearing Reading shirts who got up and clapped the third goal are happy!

Don't bother coming back

Do agree with you on that. He is very good at holding the ball and we are lucky to have him but he is so much more effective with someone like LeFondre with him to pick up all the loose balls. But I still think today he could have stood his ground a bit better.

What, and not got us the free kicks in dangerous places that we had as a result? What a stupid thing to assert.

Or play the ball out/on to another player and keep the passage of play moving. Rather that stopping it and giving Tottenham a chance to prepare themselves for the situation they were in.

Well that was just poor.

One attempt on goal all game, we were generally clueless and toothless.

A worry for me, whilst a positive, is that in all three games our stand-out performers have arguably been the same players, save for McCleary's cameo against Stoke. Guthrie and Pog. Guthrie and Pog. Pearce had a decent ish game today and Le Fondre was a willing runner into the channels, but that's about it. Lucky really as our sole tactic was to lump it into the corners and hope something worked out.

Harte was appalling today - his set piece delivery was poor at Chelsea, and even worse today.

Shame for McCarthy he ballsed up - lucky for him Pearce was on the line, but that's another game and more keeping errors. I hope though that McDermott gives him a run in the team now.

Not often you lose 1-3 and can honestly say the scoreline flattered us.

The highlights of today were either;

1) Being at the back row of the South stand, and a nearby Reading fan telling me to "sit down and shut up". Immediate response, "why don't you stand up and join in", before a rant comes back of "what the oxf*rd do you know. You aren't even wearing colours. I'm in the '94 Pelada, it's a classic.". It looked brand new.. probably the first game he's attended since then. Or brought it off tinterwebz.
2) The Yid who thought it was funny on the A33 to shout "OI!", and when I turned around spat in my face. He has a black eye now.

In all honesty, it was probably the half time Steak and Loddon Ale pie. Lovely. Best pie I've had at a ground in a while.

Anyway, as I said on Twitter. Harte. Great footballing brain; out of position, every time. In the side for his "great left peg"; doesn't beat the first man. He's a worry, hope Shorey starts the next game, if I ever see Harte in a Reading shirt again I hope he's in the stands cheering on the boys.

as for McCarthy. Woeful decision making and awful distribution.

I recorded the game, so hopefully it'll look better second time round. Think I might put a belt around my neck and toss myself into oblivion when I do.

After the game, BMc was at pains to explain that the physio was adamant that AFed shouldn't play and won't be fit to play next week either. Meanwhile, AFed on his Instragram account states that he isn't injured at all. So someone is a liar :!:

Utterly appaling game today with nothing positive to take from it. BMc can bemoan a slack first half performance all he likes but it was him who lined the team up with a 4-5-1 formation with the utterly one-paced Pogrebnyak up front. Spurs rang rings around us today, total lack of pace in our side is evident and will catch up with us week-in week-out until at least January. Chris Gunter - he is no better than Shaun Cummings on the evidence of what I have seen thus far so would the money spent on Gunter have been better invested in another striker? It is desperately depressing at 0-3 down in the Premier League when you bring on.....Noel Hunt :|

My scores, for what it's worth;

MCarthy 5 - lucky to get away with the howler and didn't inspire confidence in the defence
Harte 4 - too slow, too old, better days behind him and most worrying part of the team, even free kicks were awful
Gunter 4 - not convinced yet, not sure he's any better than Cummings, and certainly slower
Gorkks 4 - out of his class today unfortunately, like him usually but wasn't a good day at the office
Pearce 5 - best of the defence but slow
McAnuff 3 - did not contribute anything
McCleary - 7 best Royals player on the pitch
Legs 6 - okish but a bad howler nearly conceded
Karacan 5 - not sure he has the class for this league, fitness and running around isn't enough
Guthrie - 6 non existent first half, but played well second half
Pog 6 - difficult to do much with such a gap between him and midfield first half, will have better days
Hal RK 6 - took goal well
Alf 7 - made an impact, quick, good touch and a natural finisher. Shame he's a midget.
Hunt - did he touch the ball?
McDonut - 5 , he's worked his magic last 2 seasons after a slow start, but will need to earn his money this season. Surprised he thinks there's enough quality in the squad, need a decent left back (not Shorey), another quality midfielder and another striker in my view. The bench looks weak. Next 2 or 3 games will define the season

Mcdermott got it badly wrong today.

Playing one up front against a team which, let's face it, has got much better players than us, is just asking to be smacked on the bum.

The lesson from Norwich, Swansea, last season is that you must go hell for leather every game and try and break these teams out of their stride. That's the only way you're going to get points from them.

To start with one up front hands the initiative. I'd rather die on my feet than my arse.

To be honest again, most of our fans know that we've got five or six in there who can't cut it in the Premiership. It's harsh, but we'll probably be saying goodbye to a few in January.

Strange opinion to have about a guy who basically hasn't played for 18 months, after he couldn't stop scoring in Belgium, aged 17/18. He's a beast, will score plenty.

What can you say? We were totally outclassed by a very good team and were lucky it wasn't more. First game in three weeks against a team who finished fourth last year was always going to be difficult.

McCarthy 3 Gifted Spurs two chances they should have taken, poor distribution and when he did manage to make a save he pushed the ball back into danger almost every time.

Gunter 4 Not convinced by our new full back. Would like to see Cummings in against West Brom.
Harte 3 Needless to say he struggled with the pace of Lennon.
Gorkks 4 Out-muscled by a dwarf.
Pearce 5 Our best defender which isn't saying much.

Mcanuff 4 Couldn't get into it at all.
McCleary 6 Made a couple of good runs but didn't have enough people trying to get on the end of his hard work.
Guthrie 4 Like Jobi he couldn't get a foothold in the game and wasn't good enough out of possession.
Karacan 3 Ran a lot. Bad day at office.
Leigertwood 4 Tried but wasn't up to his usual standards.

Pog 6 Isolated up front but tried to do his best to hold it up .

Alf 6 Gave Spurs problems.
HRK Took his goal well.
Hunt Forgot he came on so he obviously made a massive impact.
