Nothing. The decisison lies with McDermott who is currently selecting players that have been with the club for a while and know the system / way we play up front.

Relax.
How many times does Brian have to repeat it?

"It's not about the starting eleven, it's about the group, the squad. Those that are not playing support those who are. We're all in this together. "

Pog will play a part this season, as will Ian Harte, Sean Cummings, Bryn, et al.
You only have to look at Tabby to see that this is true. Bide your time, support your mates, you're here because you will be needed sometime.
The only thing that will prevent anyone from contributing will be their attitude to Brian's philosophy.
If the player doesn't buy into it, he looks elsewhere within the squad.
I have a strong suspicion that this is the case with Guthrie.

Can't trap a bag of cement
Can't head
Can't tackle

Can goal hang & score tap ins

Massive :| to the post above.

Obviously not been at any of the games where he's run his arse off (just not into the hoofball channels we like our strikers to occupy), headed goals against Chelsea and Fulham, won some outreageous sliding tackles on the halfway line or the cheeky back heel 'tap in' away against QPR in the cup?

One thing that frustrates me is Pog spends half the game in midfield, then when we need him in the attack he's nowhere to be seen as he can't keep up.

Probably the best tackler in the squad*....

*Morro may have something to say about that.

we have 4 good strikers, nice mix of different styles
none of them are brilliant, but we at least have options, and pog will get another chance im sure.

I think that Pog is losing out because we can't get Guthrie into the team

With Guthrie in the team we should be able to play the ball into Pog with more precision which is what he seems to need. Without him we simply play the ball into the channels for the forward to run onto or fight for and that role is more suited to Roberts as he has more pace and seems to use his body better.

Surely in the top 5 crossing teams in the league and how he attacked the ball v.Chelsea / the Channels he runs, he would be perfect to be on the end of crosses, if he actually stayed in the box. He won't win long balls hoofed up to or headers where he's challenging to retain posession....

I'm not sure he has the fitness to last a full 90 minutes. Whenever I see him move, the word "lumbers" springs to mind.

Pog likes the ball to feet, Roberts is more of a battler.

Mcd got hos signing wrong as usual.

Pog has a record of fast starts at a club and then fading.

His goal-scoring at Fulham had the same pattern

Personally I think it's too early to make real judgments but the stats are quite interesting

Here are the minutes per goal (Column 1) followed by minutes per goal/assists

ALF 's figures are dramatically upped by his two penalties but Alf, Hunt and HRK
are. so far, way ahead of the Pog on league stats. Pog's figures aren't great for league only
but they look much better when you add in the cups

LEAGUE

128 096 ALF
104 104 HRK
187 124 Hunt
320 320 Pog
N/A 387 Roberts

ALL GAMES

207 104 HRK
141 113 ALF
188 141 Hunt
174 174 POG
476 238 Roberts

I should say that HRK looks impressive. Can actually keep the ball, can
beat a man, and has two goals and two assists on very little pitch time

Bollocks. He was very effective for Fulham last season, and not just in the scoring sense. Our system doesn't suit him, like it doesn't suit Guthrie, which begs the question why Brian brought wither in. Both are quality when used in the right way, and we don't.

After a rapid start he then had one goal and no assists in 711 minutes

I agree he looks a touch lumbering but he's excellent at holding the ball up, much better than Roberts' heavy first touch.

Like many centre-forwards before him (Martin Butler, Jason Roberts himself), he's actually really poor at winning long balls in the air but much better at heading crossed balls.

He'll be okay once he's got Arshavin playing next to him.
