Royal With Cheese The key lies in the ability to defend and score more goals than the opposition.

Reading4eva We might be 6 points behind but teams have turned it round before from this position. So what do we do, who do we sign, who leaves.

I'd say, first of all, McD to step aside. New manager should be Curbishley, Coppell or someone with big balls. Someone who wont give up the fight. Warnock? I know it sounds extreme, but its worth a go.

Next we need some quality ASAP in January. Ayew or Adu up front or both. Midfield, get in a two strong midfielders who are willing to fight, Palacios maybe. Bring in Guthrie, put an arm round him and tell him to turn round our season. Throw him the armband and make him know hes got a chance to be great. Defence Morrison and Pearce all over. HRK to play on the wing with McCleary the other side. A goalkeeper, Camp for example with little to play for in the Championship but the quality to succeed. Schemichel would be another good call.

To go. Leigertwood and Gorkss - Championship players but we arent intending on going back there. Tabb, hard worker but not good enough. Pog, disappointing. Federici shown hes not professional and now thinks hes a billy big bollox. See how he feels when hes turning out for Coventry every week.

Follow that path and we'll give ourselves a chance. We might not stay up - but at least we would of given it a bloody good go

Listen son  six points behind, 9 points from 16 games, nearly half the season gone, well................. I can't be arsed ......someone tell Reading4eva Santa isn't coming

two new central midfielders and one excellent striker and we'd have a chance

full-backs and wide men are decent, centre-backs aren't great but aren't absolutely diabolical

we have no control from the centre of the field - the source of everything on a football pitch gives us very little apart from a lot of running/covering (because they lose it so easily)

Stop dicking around, Gus. Seriously, Leinster falling to Clermont - didn't see that coming, did you?

I think our only realistic hope of staying up is if Anton convinces his Dad to part with 40million quid and we give it to a new manager that knows how to use it. Unfortunately, I do not think Anton will give the manager even 4 million to spend in January, especially not Brian, who has wasted what little he had.

The other clear option is to change the manager, and although I think this is essential and will give everyone at the club a lift, I fear it would be too little too late to give us a more than remote chance of avoiding the drop.

Lets face facts and accept we ared down. We have wasted all that hard work in getting here and we have thrown it away without really trying, however that is the Reading Way which we are all so proud of. Enjoy the away days we have left to some of the best and most famous grounds in the UK and look forward to a scrappy season next year back in the Chump where we will be expected tu bounce straight back, even though we will lose anyone worth keeping and need to rebuild and our transfer budget will still be one of the smallest in the division.

Despite what Brian says, this season squatting in the Premiership could cause us far more harm that good in the medium to short term and it is not a good time to be a reading Supporter.

Why not go down, take the parachute payment and then get promoted again at the first time of asking but £30m richer with the same manager?

We will go down, but won't come staright back up with this squad.

A clear out and change was needed in the summer, it did not happen so we will be in a position of having to rebuild for next season.

While I'm consigned to the drop I don't think escape is completely implausible, the key would be managing to get 2 new central midfielders an experienced CB and a striker or the best out of Pog in Jan.

Federici (maybe a loan/Andersen..)

Cummings Pearce XXXX Shorey

Karacan XXXXXX

Kebe XXXXX McAnuff/HRK/McCleary

Pogrebnyak/XXXX

As much as I'm sick of the 'we've been in games excuse' It does remain a fact that we have come very close to getting a lot more points than we have. Last night was the first time since Spurs where we've genuinely looked like we had no hope of getting at least a point from the game. This year's injury list has been brutal and while the likes of Karacan/Pog etc aren't going to magically turn things around, they do have the quality to keep us in games more than Hunt, Tabb, Leigertwood etc.

Getting Kebe fully fit would also be like a new signing. While realising he's as fragile as it gets, he's still the same Kebe that has frightened plenty of defences over the past few years.

I'm also refusing to write off our Russian international just yet. Pog's not been great but if we could get a new midfielder or two that can string some passes together I've got hope that Pog could well turn into a decent player.

Fixture wise, there's just about enough to scrape together 26 points which could well be enough.

Home: Swansea, West Ham, West Brom, Sunderland, Wigan, Villa, Southampton, QPR (24)

Away: Newcastle, Stoke, Norwich, Fulham, West Ham (15)

39 points to play for, yeah it would require a massive upturn in fortune but on paper those are all games we can go and try and win, not to mention the highly unlikely but plausible possibility of nicking a point or three from some of the bigger teams.

However, all those are such massive if's that survival seems highly, highly unlikely.

it would take all of the combined wood chopping, scorpion munching, p*ss swilling abilities of the bastard child of Bear Grylls and Ray Mears to survive this situation.
