Neville is so much better than most other pundits although that's largely because he's one of the few that actually bothers with proper analysis.
Many others have somehow managed to get a job where their sole contribution is describing exactly what everybody has just seen before overusing the word "quality", why bother working out that the full backs or midfield are getting outnumbered when you could just lazily say "they needed a bit more quality"? I have no idea how their bosses let them get away with it.

The other thing is that he tries not to listen to everybody else's opinions so his own views remain fresh.

The man knows his stuff clearly plus he is young and could build a great team to come straight back up and survive the following season in the premiership. It is also a big plus that he has his obvious connections at United- fergie may be inclined to lend us some of their up an coming talent.

You're wrong, somebody edits the footage together but Neville picks out all the analysis himself. He is excellent and so far ahead of most of his peers it's laughable.

Why would 'analysts' that aren't professional footballers offer up anything that Neville can't? I'm reasonably sure they are just there to edit the highlight reels & then Neville takes care of the rest.

AFAIK he plans to manage in the future. He will be good I'm sure & is a breath of fresh air on Sky.

So absolutely spot on and such a damning indictment of McDermott's failings last night in particular.

Forget the squad strength or even team selection for a while. Last night's disastrous performance and result was down to ridiculously naive tactics and absolutely appalling defending and the manager and his assistant have to take the full blame for that.

My understanding is that he does do a lot of the research himself.

He is excellent and so far ahead of most of his peers it's laughable.

It's one of the things that I dislike most about punditry - the usual pundit portrays it as top players doing skillful things and there's no level of thought behind it. But any player at that level must have been drilled as to what was really going on. So they're doing it deliberately? Perhaps to keep a mystique about the job?

This is what I would like to see and I think with the right personnel we could pull ourselves out of it by the end of the season. I have a gut feeling we'll stay up by the skin of our teeth.

What was impressive was his pre match comments when he looked at the set up of both teams and how sides had scored against us - particularly the space left in the middle from the low puilled back cross - agree, I really hope all our coaching staff reviewed the sky coverage as we are making the same mistakes week in week in out and it is down to tactics as much as the players.

I know everyone is slaughtering Leigertwood and to some extent Tabb on here but what the hell chance have the two of them got when they are outnumbered in midfield by technical superior players week in, week out?

THAT is the indictment of the current management setup. Gary Neville can see it (ok he was the best English right back of his generation but really) he can see it Brian can't - or at least can't fix it.

This would be nice yes but you looking at £20mil in transfer fees plus wages etc. No Fecking chance!!

If we beat Swansea and Sham then we may hit a roll but I can only see 2/3 points from next 3 games.


We are virtually down, will need a dramatic improvement in the second half of the season and it is a Big Ask!
