Ian Royal
The Beardy Man I was under the impression K Cisse was closer to the 500k mark than 1million?

edit - Wikipedia puts it down as 1 million euros (with the source being our web pages)...so closer to 750K?

Yeah, Cisse was £600k, never a million. Missed that.

£1m. for Cisse

Heh apologies, I was taking it from the BBC article at the time we signed him.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/footbal ... 661413.stm

As I've said, figuring the exact amounts is fairly impossible :(

All true Wimb... I don't recall ever seeing him touted as £1m smackers. Strap has a pretty good database with player fees on it. He pm'd or emailed a print out from it a few years back. How reliable the figures are is anyone's guess but it seemed pretty complete.

He was ok, no fear, I rem being in a club once, him and sonko walked in together, just about fitting through the door. An hour later they were both hanging 2 girls from the floor on each arm. Is he still at Middlesbrough?

If Strap says it, it's law ;)

Funnilly enough I was drafting a 'most expensive XI' for The Tilehurst End the other day, never got round to finishing it but I think it looked something like. (again rough figures)

GK: Mihalylov (£800k)

LB: Armstrong (£800k)
CB: Mills (£2m)
CB: Mariappa (£2.5m)
RB: Halford(£2.5m)

LM: Convey (£850k... did it ever get disclosed how much it actually was?)
CM: Fae (£2.5m)
CM: Matejovsky (£1.4m)
RM: Seol (£1m)

ST: Lita (£1m)
ST: Asaba (?!) (£800k)

Total cost: £16.15m

To me that seems a pretty low figure for a side that's spent more than 10 years in the top 2 divisions and 2 1/2 years in the top division.

On the one hand you think, well what if we'd spent a tiny bit more, but more positively it shows that you don't have to spend masses to put a good side together.

The fact that a 1997 signing in Carl Asaba still remains our second highest transfer fee for a striker is a tad embarrassing though! I'll happily be corrected if anyone can think of a more expensive one

You don't need to spend big on strikers when you can buy Kitson, Doyle and Long for £250,000 and sell them 150 goals later for a profit in the region of £17,500,000.

IIRC was about £1.5m for Shaka, £1.1m for Osborn and 750k for Taylor?

Wow, it's a pretty poor side - weak in CM and up front. Not sure it would get out of the Championship.

Basically most times we've spent any decent money it's been disappointing.

Yikes, that's a team with varying quality levels. When you think of our best players over that period it's amazing how many of them have been cheap in comparison.

Sidwell, Harper, Karacan, Kitson, Doyle, Long, Cureton, Forster, Roberts(?), Le Fondre, Pogrebnyak, Ingimarsson, Sonko, Gorkss, Pearce, Shorey, Little, SHunt etc. All cost barely over £500k, if that.

I don't find Asaba being in there embarassing (other that we paid that much for him), I think it's just a sign of how brilliant we are at recruiting low cost strikers who do the business.

Be interesting to see what the lowest cost team of quality players you could put together would be.

Well, it was 1.1m for Osborn. But Meaker came to us as part of the deal and he had a value.

So 1.1m for Osborn then :D

Unfair. 1.09 million seems reasonable.
