southbank1871 This will be a nice gesture. My Mum has MS and will be there, but the ironic thing is that she can't stand up to applaud.

Am i allowed to laugh at that ^

That was the idea m8!

Just checking - i know your Mum well so didn't want to upset her

Gordons Cumming If Les Chappell has Alzheimers do we applause him too when we next play Rotherham or Blackburn?

Seems harsh of me, but agree with the 'where do we draw the line' comments. This is very 'in vogue' at the moment, but yes, of course, nice gesture.

However, what about if someone stood outside with a tin and collected for a MS charity, wouldn't that be better? If everyone that went gave a quid I think that would really make a difference.

In Moscow so can't help either way :(

In fact, sod that, what if the club went one further and gave £1k for every goal Reading score for the rest of the season. Now there's a movement...

What happens if Sheff Utd score during the minute? Am I aloud to stop and abuse Mcanuff for giving the ball away?

royalexile I'm pleased the club still show him the respect he deserves.

Wasn't the club's idea.

A good idea.
Hopefully we won't have to think about doing the same next year if we play them in a league game.

:| you have to clap and standup for a minute or so three minutes into the game. What the hell is so wrong with that as a mark of respect for a severely crippling condition? The man still managed to get out there and play top level professional football for oxf*rd sake. It's not as if you are being forced to hand over cash to pay for his retirement

I see no harm in it. Up to individual fans if they want to do it. Would be typical Reading though if only a few hundred get to hear about it in advance. The end result would be quite embarassing

As long as the message gets out - eg leaflets outside the ground, on buses and radio would help but could lose the effect of spontaneity.

More importantly, who is going to start it off? Kingsley? Floyd? SDR??? Now that would be fun!

Even if we did he probably wouldn't remember it.

I agree there should be a line, but it would certainly be drawn well after applauding a committed professional who gave excellent service to both clubs.

I know exactly what you mean. But sometimes in life you just shut up and do things that are a bit like this because behind the sentimentality there is the germ of a good idea.
