I would assume he's got a long term injury problem that the club made a cock up on, as opposed to the view he's shit.

He can't be shit if he's represented his country at every level apart from the main squad and come through one of Europe's best academies http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/blogs/pit ... 26548.html

If he was shit then he would have been out of their door before he was made capt. Furthermore if anyone was touted at £25m at any point in their career they must have something (Having said that Andy Carroll blows that theory out the water)

I would assume his knee is FOOKED!

Ian Royal He looked like he was blowing out of his arse after 20 minutes of his one 45 minute appearance. He's had strapping on a leg as well I understand.

Sounds to me, like he's got a niggly little injury that keeps him from reaching full fitness, but can still train a lot of the time trying to get there. It looks a little like our medical was shoddy. Pure speculation at this point, but it's not looking good for him.

He must have been good to captain Sp Lisbon. Doesn't mean he still is.

dont think shoddy at all.
an inurury doesnt necessarily mean you fail medical and dont get signed, its simply one of the tools we used to get a very good price for the lad.

But you can't disagree that it would have been shoddy, if it failed to pick up on a long-term niggly injury that is going to prevent him returning to his best and perhaps not really featuring for us at all. Presumably, if his lack of appearance is down to injury, it's already prevented him making the impact we so desperately needed this season.

And if it's not an injury keeping him out, then rather than medical, it's a shoddy failing in scouting his ability.

Not in the squad again today. Would love Adkins to give us an update on the situation.

Yeh. Annoying that we all have to guess. The club should let us know what the situation is.

Well, as Brian The Genius decided not to do any scouting prior to one of the biggest seasons in our history, I'm not surprised we ended up signing a paraplegic and some bloke we bumped into in a cup game only a week before.

Cheers Brian.

A PL team with no scouting system?..you couldn`t fecking make it up. why on earth do you think all of these big sides that showed an interest pulled out?
appalling management of the highest level.

Perhaps our esteemed new leader thought he knew who we we needed to buy, in the likes of Pog and Carrico. Pog wasn't a bad shout, if very expensive. Carrico is a mystery - he played part of one game and unless we played him when he was still carrying an injury, I can only dedeuce that he must have got injured in that game - though no mention was ever made of it as far as I'm aware. Can't believe he really is shit, so must be an injury, but why a complete news blackout on him? :|

I think in reality all everybody wants is an update as to what the situation is with him, it's like he has disappeared of the face of the earth, has all the hallmarks of a complete and utter cock up !!

no scouting? hamm, ond was quite clear about that comment - he meant insufficient scouting network in place in europe due to our finances and outlook in the championship.not none whatsoever
takes time to build these things, and anton was simply bemoaning that it had effected us badly.

We had a decent scouting network when coppell was here, Brian mcdermott said that during the 106 season he never got to see reading play at all because he was scouting around Europe.
I wonder how much travelling Steve shorey did last year, not much I would guess.

When have we ever had an extensive and thorough scouting network outside of the UK and Ireland?

We're very good at making Football League punts. We're utterly dreadful at making Premier League signings.

Hopefully that will all change now that we have appointed Steve Head as the new head of scouting and recruitment. He did an exceptional job at Fulham, and will hopefully do the same here - budget depending.
