Anfield Kopite That was genuinely one of the best goalkeeping performances I have ever seen. Well done Pepe Reina. :D
Seriously your 'keeper was brilliant today.

Nice to see your fans setting their usual caveman standards at the game today. Now this game is over with & we've mourned the 96 can you fcuk off?

Fair comment. I wasn't at the game. I know a lot planned to sing anti Thatcher songs. Despite making my feelings known towards that women in a thread on AE I wouldn't have joined in. Also I have given my word that I will be gone as soon as I am knocked out of Frimmers music quiz on AE.

Enjoy your point. We couldn't score so you deserved it. Incredible goalkeeping though.

Not even talking about that. They were setting off fireworks & flares. You lot don't help yourselves.

In fact I've never seen Liverpool come to Reading & not have any fans kicking off. You are without question the most badly behaved away fans I've seen. Even Cardiff have cleaned up their act these days.

Do we have any chance of keeping McCarthy in the summer. Surely several top PL sides will be queuing up for him with open cheques, let's hope we make it clear he is our no. 1

The flares and fireworks were about Thatcher mate. It was meant to be a party to celebrate her passing. I am not condoning it. Just explaining the level of hatred towards her,

Liverpool fans fell quiet in the 2nd half, must have ran out of vile songs to sing about a lady who passed away.

Twats.

I presume you're blaming Thatcher for a large number of your 'fans' storming the turnstiles in Athens too? That could have caused another Hillsborough but you crack on.

Anyway above poster is right. I will stop posting this on BFTG.

Excellent game. McCarthy superb as stated, vastly improved from McAnuff, Guthrie & Carrico look like a very decent CM partnership, full backs had a similarly good game. Well done boys.

A quick sensible summary for those unable to attend today. And I'll ignore the Liverpool fans antics !

For the first time in many many weeks, you could sense the belief in the stands. OK, Liverpool had a few chances, but we played with passion and pride and commitment.
This was something that was sadly lacking in the recent home games versus Wigan and Villa.

Adkins is making a difference. He has installed some belief. There is no question that man for man Liverpool are better than us. That isn't up for debate. They are homing in on a top 6-7 finish, and we are going down. But today was the first time for many many games this season that I can say I enjoyed our performance.
We tried. We battled.

The previous ratings are accurate. McCarthy was sensational, but just about everyone else did as best as they can...and that is all you can ask.

We are going down this season, and in recent weeks it was hard to see how we could mount a challenge to come straight back. Personally, I now feel that under Adkins, we COULD do it.

Total respect today to the players, fans and officials of our club today. Well done Reading.

For a team bottom of league, effectively down and on a run of 8 successive defeats, I thought our support was superb today. Shame the same can't be said for the scum in the away end. A lot that boded well for the future

It depends if the toilets have been ripped out. Not bothered about the flare or the bangers. Just lol at the ineffective stewarding when the bangers did go off. Liverpool were tidy at times and woefully ineffective at others. Sounds familiar.

On the balance of play, we were quite fortunate and had McCarthy to thank for getting us a point. Without doubt the was the best performance I have seen from a RFC Keeper in my 27 years supporting the team....10 put of 10 for the lad.

Apart from that I thought McCleary had a good game, Carrico looked a little rusty but still far more composed that Ledge ever has. At the back I still worry as Gunter showed his usual lapses of concentration which have been a liability this season. Apart from that I thought Guthrie played well and the front 2 worked hard. Have serious doubts about Morrison a this level and would prefer to see Shorey back at left back with Kelly moved back to RB.

With that said, I must say that was probably the best I have seen us play this season and we actually looked like a Premiership side at times. Still early days, but I was very encouraged by the performance. Likely to be too little too late but I enjoyed watching that, the first time I have been able to say that since the Sunderland home game. All the players and staff should feel very pleased with their efforts fingers crossed this is just the start of us improving under Adkins.

A fine performance, but we could easily have lost 4-0 on any other day

McCarthy Kicking woeful, made some fairly regulation saves. 5

Gunter Good clearance off the line after McCarthy allowed Suarez round him too easily. 6
Morrisson Looked nervous at the start but grew into it. Great block on the line to save McCarthy's blushes. 7
Mariappa - Better than last week. 6
Kelly - Looked more comfortable at LB wasn't fazed by Downing when he came on. 7

McCleary A few nice runs especially the one in the second half with the step overs and always looked to create problems for the full back. 7
McAnuff - Unlucky not to score and looked like he really wanted to show his detractors something. motm 8
Karacan - Struggled a bit. Seems to be getting close to new scapegoat territory. 5
Hunt - Hassled and harried as usual and was unlucky when a truly class keeper in Reina made a great save to deny him. 7

Pog - Like Doyle, Long and Roberts before him looked better with Hunt alongside him. Held it up well without the service. 7

Subs:

Caricco - Looked to be the real deal. Tidied up well in front of the defence, made some good tackles and some nice touches. 7
Blackman - Did ok. Seems to be being written off by some without really being given a chance. 6
Le Fondre - Should've come on earlier imo but didn't really get a sniff. 6
