Butland got his chance in the Champ. He couldn't stay down there more than a season realistically though.

It's like he hypnotises strikers into hitting it at him, rather than the goal. Half the time it just hits him because he's made himself big in the right place, rather than actually "saving" it. Just amazing positioning. Really, really needs to work on his kicking if he's going to be at the very top.

In England we are not blessed with a string of confident reliable 'keepers, McCarthy has blown away the theory that the Liverpool performance was a flash in the pan, he has now performed in each game he has played giving top class displays each time, whilst agreeing with an earlier comment that it would be "too soon" at this time you cannot get away from the fact that he has played well and consistently enough to deserve his chance.

When McCarthy plays in between the sticks for us and I feel totally confident that we have a reliable and trustworthy 'keeper, sadly I can't say the same when Feds is there.

Players fear him as well - he really commands his area. He could be frighteningly good in a few years if he stays fit.
