Barry the bird boggler Absolute class player, believe he left because this stupid club wouldn't offer him a longer term deal.

Also recalls another largely forgotten player of around this time, Andy Rogers. Wonder what he's doing now....

OK, I might have dreamed this but....

wasn't Andy Rogers playing for Plymouth that day, and signed for us shortly afterwards....?

No problems if that's wrong, but that's how I remember it.

No, Rogers was playing for us that day. We had signed him from Argyle that summer. After we went 4-3 up, Andy decided to play a little keepy-uppy in the corner and Argyle full back Gordon Nisbet was sent off after trying to lump him into the South Bank.

Ark Royal ...and Mad Max scoring the second at Newport.

Just look at the crowd for a Newport County home game! No wonder Reading was deserted that day!

Another game never to be forgotten.

Official figure was 6,449, about 4,500 of which were Reading

I have, quite literally, no recollection of that sending-off - and thanks for the clarity re Rogers. He must have played against us the previous year then, I can deffo remember him playing against us for Plyms at EP.

You probably saw him playing for Argyle against us during the 84/85 season. We signed him in the summer of 85 and he only spent one season with us. Also scored direct from a corner for the winner for Argyle in a FA Cup quarter-final replay against Derby in 84.

OK thanks, and I didn't go to that Plymouth / Derby match, although it might have been on the radio.
