We will never have an atmosphere as there are not enough fans who actually are bothered in attempting to create ones. Those that are sit too far from each other to get anything going

Even those of us in Y25/26 don't all sing. Apart from big games when they're up for it, we probably have 1000 out of the 2,500 in that area who bother. There are people who sit in front of me and they just sit there, tutting at the game, tutting at the away support. No emotion at all. If I was like that then I'd swap for the West Stand, and it's a better concourse as well.

blythspartan I will probably get banned from HNA for this but here goes.

How about at random times in the games at the Mad Stad, as many of us as possible sing " Nellie the Elephant".

Heard this blasted out many years a go at the Reading Rock Festival (I think it was by Slade).

A real random song that we could have some fun with.

Isn't that what the Bill Oddie song is?

We should have more songs about stabbing Swindon, they're just terrific and the players can't help but be motivated by them.

Remember Wife Swap on Channel 4? Well maybe we could have a Fan Swap with Galatasaray?

They can bring over some continental chanting, giant flags and pyrotechnics, and we could send them a drummer, a box of rumblestix and Queensley Royal.

I keep reading the thread title as "Flatpack Reading fans", as if the club popped down to Ikea and assembled some to fill bums on seats.

We need cheerleaders. None of these jailbait types. Those proper buxom 'Milf next door' sort. They can gyrate whilst we cheer everytime the ball leaves the field of play - rather like T20.

We should resurrect some of the golden oldies from the 60's and 70s: !

If I had the wings of a sparrow
If I had the arse of a cow
I'd fly over Brummie tomorrow
And shit on the bastards below
Shit on, shit on, shit on the bastards
below, below.........

genome We're a meaningless London satelite town.

The Only Fools theme is regularly sung by Reading fans (me and 3 mates) on the train for away games, having regularly been called cockney w@nkers everywhere from Bristol to Hull

While I agree with that, think it applies to all clubs to an extent, and believe one thing worse than no atmosphere is organised atmosphere I still think its a shame. Games are better to watch with a good rowdy atmosphere and its certainly what initially drew me to regular attendance, and would be more likely to keep people coming back if we had one.

think it is in many ways a symptom of us transitioning between managers owners and style and hope it may pick up a bit with continued good form and success

80% of football grounds, including many of the big teams, have questionable home support.

Trouble is people are comparing a modern, family orientated and different temperament sit-down audience with the boisterous, all-male, thicko pseudo hard-man, standing audience of the past.

Football isn't watched by big groups of macho shouty pricks any more. It's watched by a bigger cross-section of society and some folk, as much as they love their team and the sport, aren't really into singing about anally-raping a players girlfriend or loudly reminding everybody what their team is called every 5 minutes.

One8Seven1 We can be a lot louder and a lot more consistent, but our reluctance to adopt a number of chants used by many other clubs is a little annoying (for some reason we think we're better than that, yet we pay the price for being a lot quieter as a result...)

This is nonsense surely, pretty much every Reading chant is unoriginal (likewise 99% of every football chant).

If you want an atmosphere then go to an away game. Reading will never be consistenly loud at home so forget it. Just enjoy those rare moments [Wigan in the p/o semi-final] when everyone forgets themselves and goes absolutely batshit mental.
