Sanguine
leon Guthrie doing none of the dirty work in midfield has not been missed.

Apart from Jem, who only played 7 games, Guthrie is averaging 0.4 tackles per game more than anyone in the entire squad this season.

That's his second touch.

Royal Biscuitman I wonder what Guthrie has been doing in training - Is he learning to adapt his game and learn how to best play alongside Williams or Akpan? - If I was the manager, that's what I'd be looking to do.

It certainly worked with the previous manager.

One tackle every two and a half games? Maybe that's where we're going wrong.

I'm not doubting that Akpan and Williams have been a decent pairing, but I think these criticisms of Guthrie's play are predominantly based on myth.

not sure you need stats to discern that guthrie dipped seriously after a great start to the season where he was the centre of everything, most prob due to teams working this out, or the loss of karacan.

every time ive seen him more recently he looked really inneffective. regardless of the stats

You cut the sentence in half and made it mean something else.

Stats aren't everything, but they can be compared for everyone, and he has clearly been more effective than you thought.

Apologies.

Sanguine Apart from Jem, who only played 7 games, Guthrie is averaging 0.4 tackles per game more than anyone in the entire squad this season. Of non-defenders, only Chris Baird recorded more interceptions per game.

Isn't that what 0.4 per game (or 2.5 games per tackle) means?

'more than anyone else....' was the key point, and was specifically in response to the suggestion that he doesn't do any 'dirty work', which is plainly not the case.

I was just thinking that sounds pretty shit all round. Leigertwood I swear used to average more than a couple a game.

Each team in the division averages between 14 and 19 tackles a game (we are 16.8 ) - I guess possession changes hands through interceptions and sloppy passing, missed shots etc a lot more than where the ball is actually won in the tackle.
