Old news, but Danny Carrico will not play for Reading again. Sad but true.

Priorities are to get rid of the player who we won't miss but are probably expensive. It's the same three as during the January window plus Guthrie:
Get rid of Pogrebnyak: pay half his wages to an Eastern European team for a loan if necessary
Get rid of Drenthe: get some top employment law experts in to sack him for being unfit or pay him off
Get rid of Guthrie: free transfer/season-long loan to fellow Championship hopefuls like we did with Harper and Rosenior
Get rid of LeFondre: perhaps a manager who hasn't had him watched will pay us some money for him

If we can achieve two or three of the above and don't have to contemplate next year with too many Zigic-equivalents, then we might be able to keep players with a bit of value who we would miss if we had to sell them:
Keep McLeary
Keep Gunter
Keep Obita
Keep McCarthy
Keep Morrison
Keep Pearce
Keep Akpan
Keep Williams

New contracts for those who look fit enough and are good enough to play a full season:
McAnuff and Hector

Release/free transfer or get a nominal fee for as many of the following as possible
Blackman
Leigertwood
Robson-Kanu
Bridge
Kelly
Taylor
Anderson
Cummings

If we have some transfer money available or money for new contracts, we have to spend it all on some strikers, because they have been the difference between us and teams like Burnley this year.

Are we able to sell Le Fondre with a clause in the contract that he has to be loaned back to us each January for 1 month?

Then at least we will get his one good spell a season and someone else can put up with him being utter dump for months

OK - so people are wanting to get rid of a lot of our deadwood, plus the reality is we'll probably have to sell several of our better, younger players to help balance the books. There are a lot of current Championship players out of contract in the summer.

Who would you want to pick up on a free transfer to augment the trimmed down squad. I'd get rid of McCarthy and Federici and bring in Marek Stech from Yeovil as a start

Love us to sign Alejandro Faurlin from that list, think he would be perfect. Most of those on that list should be offered new contracts thought. Others I wouldn't mind are
Jordi Gomez
Baird
Diego Poyet
David Lopez
Orlandi
Eagles
Jacob Mellis

Also some good realistic players on a free from other divisions i.e. Matty Fryatt, Guly do prado, Boyata (supposed to be good dont know though), Vaz Te, Jonny Parr, Tommy Rowe.

Also see Mike Havenaar and Jacob Mulenga are on a frees too, believe we were heavily linked in summer.

This is what I like to see, vain optimism that the club has any sort of money to spend at all.

I can see (if we dont get promoted) it being a very simmilar few seasons that we had when Rodgers took over. All this new blood that wasnt quite good enough just yet but had a few golden gems (ie siggy, longy).
Can see samuel, ugwu, and lots more academy players coming in, while the likes of Williams and Obita shine. And I have an inkling that McAnuff is our new brynjar.. You know will be here for ages and will just slowly fade out while we "let go" of this last generation if we can call it that.

I think we should ship quite a few out even if we do go up. I cant see the point in keeping the Pog in the Premier League and should anyone be daft enough to buy him we should bite their hand right off

even if the manager wanted to keep him, which i doubt, he would still have to sell him to get his wages off the books

On what I see left I'd have our squad as:

Adam Federici, Jon Henly, Daniel Lincoln, (Stuart Moore)

Chris Gunter, Michael Hector, Jordan Obita, Sean Morrison, Alex Pearce, (Jake Cooper, Shane Griffin, Niall Keown, Sean Long, Pierce Sweeney).

Hope Akpan, Royston Drenthe, Jem Karacan, Jobi McAnuff, Aaron Tshibola, Danny Williams [look at whether Kelly and Kuhl can integrate to the squad]

Nick Blackman, (Craig Tanner, Gozie Ugwu).

Goalkeepers - fine,
Defence, ok (depending on whether we are confident in the youth to provide cover),
Midfield, maybe one more central midfielder and one more winger/wide striker needed.
Attack, couple of out and our strikers needed, one if we are confident in Gozie.

Am a bit surprised that a few want to keep Blackman and would like to know why.
As mentioned under another topic I would want to keep, from our first team squad only:-
McCarthy
Hector
Obita (as long as he plays left-back)
Williams

From the out-of -contract list Harry Arter to play centrally with Williams.
The one striker that I have seen and like from the lower levels is Callum Wilson of Coventry.
He might turn out to be another Blackman but he is quick, plays well with a fellow striker and scores goals.

We then only need about 15 others.

I've never particularly understood the criticism of him - think he's been lumped in the same category as Akpan, i.e. a player who came in way above his level in the Premier League and, because of that, will never make it. Plus we all need a scapegoat...

For me, he's been one of a handful of players this season to show commitment, directness, and dare I say it, a goalscoring threat. IMO he's shown far more than the likes of HRK this term.
