weve managed to slot a fair few youth team players into championship football over the last few years as it is,
and thats with a product from the academy that wasnt of the quality we have coming through now.
with sigurdsson  pearce, karacan, Mcarthy, Obita and now hector all looking of a decent standard for this level.
you'd imagine that, that kind of rate would at least be maintained, if not increased.
1-2 youth players a year to make it to the first team is/would be brilliant

Great picture! :D

I couldn't get a decent enough picture due to the sun light. Great picture!

I thought the first half was rather dull, Man City should have been at least 2-0 up by half time, their shooting was diabolical. After the break we seem more composed and threatened more, the substitution obviously helped, the first goal was a beauty, the second had a huge impact on how Man City composed themselves.

My MOTM: Stacey, followed by the Man City captain.

Good atmosphere, good day out. Well done to the U21's.

It tends to come in waves a little bit. Just got to hope that there's room for the lads to come through when they're ready, and someone supportive to their introduction in charge.

Yes, it was exceptional, perhaps, but who can forget 'Fergie's Fledglings' ?

Sir JM was there but I didn't see NA. That is not a criticism because, whatever you think about him, there is no doubting his belief and support for our Academy and U21 teams. But we have another place in history - winners of the very first U21 Premier League Cup!!!

Nigel Adkins was there, along with Nick Hammond and Sal Bibbo. It would have been very unlike him had he not attended. As you mention there is no doubting his belief in and support for the Academy, something that Eamonn Dolan stressed after the game.

BTW, I really hope that the club filmed the game (didn't notice any cameras) and that we will get to see some of the highlights.

The OS is plastered with pictures, but nothing on RP. So I'm guessing not, although it is a Bank Hol, so maybe that's having an affect.

yappy Can't be relegated this season, as promotion/relegation doesn't come into the U21 level until next season. Even if there was, it's a 21 game season so that means we can't come any lower than 18th (out of 22).

Follow the link on that page about competition format rules and it says a two division structure of 11 teams each starts in 2014/15, so this is the year that decides which division you're going to be in. Technically that's not relegation but it comes to the same thing.

Reading's lowest possible position is now 17th. And if we win the last two games (Man Utd and Spurs) with a goal difference of at least +3 we're guaranteed to be in the top 11.

And there were cameras in the West Stand gallery on Saturday.

And it's with promotion and relegation.

They are basically trying to replicate a competitive environment so they are more than just glorified friendlies.

Begins at 18:18, and probably only there until 6 pm Wednesday.
