On that showing Kuhl in, Cummings (unluckily) out. Obita is far better ateft back and we simply can't afford to ignore an entire quadrant of the pitch by having not a single left sided player starting out there.

John Madejski's Wallet Not sure what you think Akpan did wrong today. Better than most of the team. He also improved massively when Kuhl came on and he could play alongside/in front of a proper midfielder

Besides costing us the game with their first goal you mean?

You seem to be confusing him with Hector. Akpan was not the problem.

Akpan did well tonight - definitely NOT his fault for the goal

Obita LB, Akpan, Kuhl in the middle, Blackman left, Mackie right for the next game

Has he changed his name to Michael Hector?

Talk Sport (OK - not the most reliable of sources!) put the first goal down to a Hector error. But - as NA has said several times - we need to allow our youngsters to make mistakes now and then and not get on their backs about it. Hector played really well on Saturday. He's a great prospect. Glad that Kuhl got some match time. He has leadership qualities which should blossom with time so long as he doesn't get arrogant. Seems to have his feet firmly on the ground in the interviews I've seen though.

I don't mind allowing them to make mistakes as long as we recognise when an academy graduate makes a mistake and don't attribute the mistake to someone else.

Mackie ineligible for Forest I believe.

Kuhl has got that touch of class and should definitely start. He is good enough.

Based on the second half I would give akpan one last chance to start alongside him. Kuhl and Karacan could be a good combination for the future.

Obita should start at left back on Saturday, but I hope the club are looking for a new left back so jordan can play in his most proper position on the left wing.

I thought tanner did well again even though he was playing out of position.

Blackman should have stayed on as looked a real threat and Taylor should have gone off. He is not a winger, kept offering inside and left pog to pick up balls on left wing while he took up a central position for the cross. I agree with others and dont know what his role is in this team.

Should we have had a pen for the tackle on akpan?

Adkins when interviewed on Radio Berkshire last night intimated that Kuhl will get a start on Saturday versus Forest.

This is excellent news, I for one thought he should have been given his chance first game of the season versus Wigan considering the midfield players we have injured at thIs moment time.

Unbelievable amount of injuries in that area. Kuhl and Akpan are the only, what you'd call, central midfielders that are currently fit.

Hopefully we can sign Norwood today and have him and Kuhl form the central midfield at Forest (although I think NA may well try a midfield three up there meaning Akpan would play alongside).

Exactly this. It was Obita who looked the real lost sheep in the centre of midfield, kept dropping way to deep and getting in Akpan's way. Once Obita was put in his proper position of left back, Kuhl came on and pushed forwards, Akpan looked much better (not that he had been that bad before).

I really can't understand Adkins' thinking in playing two players - Obita and Cummings out of position. We need a proper left back and, at present, Obita is the only one we have got. Furthermore, he is pretty ineffective in the centre of midfield (last night Blackman seemed to move inside to perform the role Obita should have been fulfilling). If Adkins doesn't want to play Kuhl from the start of games, I would prefer to see Obita at left back and Cummings central midfield. I don't think Cummings would do any worse than Obita in that position and at least one of the two players would then be playing in a position they are more suited to.

Exactly. Talksport correctly identified Hector as being at fault and Adkins dropped some extremely strong hints, referring to correct choice of pass when talking about the mistake that led to the first goal. Still, some on here have to have the same scapegoat for every game and with McAnuff gone and Blackman playing so well that not even a fool can make him a scapegoat, that leaves Hope Akpan!

'Greed. Obita at left back last night gave us much better balance, and the half time sub was definitely the right move from Adkins. The left side of midfield has been the weakest part of the team in the four games thus far, but looked much, much better after the substitutions at Wigan (in particular) and last night when we got Obita out of the middle and onto the left.

Kuhl is too lightweight

If we chuck too many academy players into the starting line up we are going to get seriously bossed out of games

But they're all amazing and they're going to win the league because they won 1-0 in the second half against huddersfield yesterday!
