On that performance, would rather see Norwood in there over Guthrie anyday. Seemed his first wayward pass was in the 89th min.

His ability to pass was sensational.

Murray will get at least 20 goals if he gets the service, looks a clinical striker. Fair play to Akpan, although I do not rate him, thought he looked established next to Norwood made it look comfortable out there.

Hope it continues on Tuesday

It's not really that your view is at odds with his. It's more that your view is, well, factually incorrect.

Spot on. Norwood ran the game, he dictated the play and everything good that happened involved him. Anyone that couldnt see that needs their eyes tested.

If you go on the Fulham OS and choose the match centre there are some interesting stats. It shows that the most passes were by Norwood who had 98 accurate passes and one intercepted, the most passes of anyone in the team. I would suggest that fits with the view of the majority of spectators that Norwood controlled the game from midfield. It made such a difference that when the defence had the ball, Pearce in particular, Norwood always seemed there ready to take it off him and move it forward. Some of the long balls to Mackie were sublime.

Well - that was enjoyable! We played football!

Fulham were poor but they were not that bad. They contributed to a lively start by both sides but once Murray scored (with a brave diving header from a great Obita cross) and once they were down to 10 men (red card looked harsh to me) they lost heart and looked like a team devoid of confidence. Having said that, they were denied goals by a superb last ditch challenge by Gunter and again by a great save by Feds diving low to his left. Fulham also enjoyed about 15 minutes of supremacy in the game after we scored our second and then, predictably but frustratingly, eased off.

But today was all about Reading and I was impressed by the way we passed the ball - both long and short - and the fact that we were playing at pace! Fantastic debut by Murray who looks like a real striker and linked up really well with Cox and Mackie (who has more pace than his frame suggests!) considering they have had little time to get to know each others' game. It's difficult not to give MOTM to Murray so I will, but both Gunter and Obita shone as well. In fact there was hardly a weak link in the team today although Akpan (and I am not one of the Akpan haters) didn't seem to be as quick of thought as the other midfielders and slowed the game down when in possession.

Murray will have been disappointed to have been substituted - as he was probably looking forward to a hat-trick against a tiring 10-man side towards the end of the game - but I though NA needed to make those substitutions to disrupt that Fulham period of pressure. Pog headed (or was it deflected?) onto the bar and we had one other simple chance (I couldn't see who it fell to) which was blasted straight at their keeper (who also had a good game) from close-range when it looked easier to score. Edwards provided an injection of energy which we needed and Blackman provided the third goal.

But - up into 9th now and a third clean sheet in as many games is a good run of form particularly with the quality we still have on the physio's couch. I'm guessing that some of them will find it difficult to get back into the team. That's a nice problem for NA to have!!

Looking at the praise for the 4 signings, dare I say it that this is the first window where Adkins has been able to bring in "his" players and suddenly we look a much more cohesive team, albeit only on the evidence of 1 game against a woeful team playing with 10 men.

I don't even think Adkins was totally happy with what he was able to do in the transfer window, so more to come there I feel.

I don't think he said you were unworthy of posting. Simply that what you posted was utter tripe. Which it was.

Out of curiosity, has anyone got a video of that shambles of a free kick Fulham took on about 30mins? About 5 people dummied it and then it got smashed into the wall.

True but it's the first window in such a long time where there's been a purpose to each signing. We haven't lost any players we couldn't afford to lose and we have massively improved the squad without spending a fortune. You look at the big money players, Pog, Guthrie, they're out of contract at the end of the season and assuming we take up the option on Murray, we've already replaced them for less money with players better suited to how the manager wants us to play.

Maybe i'm going overboard on one performance but for once expectations are reasonable and the future looks positive. We haven't had that at this stage of the season since 2010/11.

Really enjoyed today. Difficult to assess though. Where we good, or where they dump.
Mixture of both I suspect.

Still every Reading player did their bit in an entertaining affair. Akpan had a good a game that I have seen, although he was not put under any pressure by their players (Except for theirs who lunged at him and got sent off) He worked well with Norwood and apart from a few isolated spells controlled the midfield.
Defence played really well (Ferdinand has not got a hope in hell in getting a game in front of Hector and Pearce) and the forwards caused their defence plenty of problems.

When we have the other senior players returning from their injuries there will be some real competition for places.

Well played Reading.

I don't want to get too excited here, but....

1) Norwood provided one of the most accomplished 'deep lying playmaker' performances I have ever seen from a Reading player.

2) Murray looks like he is the first out and out goal scorer we have had since Long

Exciting times ahead.

windermere_royal Before I say anything, Fulham were bloody atrocious.
But having said that you can only beat what`s in front of you, marvelous debut for Murray, good hold up play and strong on the ball. and of course 2 deadly finishes,
Norwood ran the middle of the park and the countless diagonal balls out to the lively Mackie were a joy to watch.
Obita very lively out wide beating his man and whipping in dangerous crosses.
Difficult to think of anyone that played badly. but I want to see it against batter sides than that lot were today.
Nice days entertainment though.

Thing is, that although your right Fulham are atrocious, we have struggled against atrocious teams. I think there's much more of a feel good factor now. Ownership is sorted and the team have depth. Murrays finishing reminded me of Le Fondre at his best. If he continues in that vain Palace might take him back in January. I hope not though. I really think we can push on now.
