Norfolk Royal Surely this is a wind up.

Student at Solent University says Yakubu is there having a medical in full Reading FC kit. Doesn't sound very likely.

If he's fit, raring to go and hasn't lost his pace then this could be a very clever short term signing.

Assuming it's true ... which I would say it is not.

Exactly this. Bit of a gamble - but so was Jason Roberts? - and that worked out pretty well for us in the Championship. I really hope he's a better player than Roberts though - always looked a better player to me. (Am I the only one who didn't like Roberts?)

2 different players, Yakubu is more clinical goalscorer

It could be quite a good signing, just don't sit him next to HRK on the team bus.

Why? Is HRK a racist or something?

He's still scored 28 goals in 53 games in the last two seasons. OK , at a lower level but potentially with better players around him could do very well.

From the Telegraph..

The former Everton and Portsmouth forward is in talks with Steve Clarke and could sign a short-term deal later today.

Yakubu is a free agent after leaving Qatari club Al Rayyan and is expected at the Madejski Stadium in the next few hours.

The 32-year-old has not played in England since quitting Blackburn Rovers in 2012 but Clarke, the Reading manager, is anxious to sign a goalscorer.

Reading are operating under financial restrictions and Yakubu is seen as a cheap, no-risk signing.

Well I suppose the sight of Yakubu and Pogrebnyak thundering towards you must be pretty intimidating as long as you've got the time to wait for them to arrive.

The Daily Telegraph's John Percy: Surprise deal possibly happening in the Championship. #Readingfc are trying to sign former #efc and #portsmouth striker Yakubu.

Sensational scenes. The Nigerian is only 32 and has been playing for Qatar's Al Rayyan.

Really undecided about this one. Good player back in the day but has been in the footballing wilderness in recent years. Always going to be a bit of a punt, even if cheap and short term. Hopefully he'll have a Roberts-type effect (if he joins) but, as Brendan Rodgers at Liverpool knows, last minute loan deals to cover striker shortages don't always work out.....

He scored 17 goals in the Premier League in 2011/12, not that long ago. No brainer

To be fair provided it is a short term deal to the end of the season, this seems to me to be exactly what we need. If the Pog gets injured we have no one who can be a presence up front - as Cox et all need to feed off a central striker.

Basically if Pog gets injured again we are screwed so this seems to me a squad signing and makes a lot of sense.

We can look to the longer term in the summer.
