Where are all the Pog apologists hiding?

The ones that strain themselves to remind everyone that he works so hard!!!!!!11 and is one of our best players so we shouldn't sell him? And that his hold up play is so good, it makes up for his abysmal goal scoring record...

The club need to get rid of him ASAP

Don't believe this for a second. If Pogrebnyak was being given a wage rise then its doubtful that Feds, Pearce and Jem would all be gone as we could have afforded to keep paying them the same. Plus it claims we still pay Drenthe who is no longer our player and has gone to Turkey where they throw stupid money at players and it was also confirmed a while back that Ferdinand was on a pay as you play deal by Charles Watts

Not Pog's fault. If your boss offered you the option, would you take it even though you deep down you don't think you'd really deserve it? Thought so. Blame Anton, not Pog.

These are straw "Pog apologists".

I don't think you can find anyone on here who thinks he provides good value for money. A few of us, including myself, think he's a useful player, but I can't remember anyone justifying the wage he's on for a long time. I'd have been quite happy if we'd sold him last summer and I wouldn't have been too sad to see him go the summer before, I've just given up all hope of that now.

Anyway...

Basically the Pog story was described as complete rubbish. And I'm using poetic license on that word to avoid offence. #readingfc

Hate doing this for a second night in a row while on holiday. But was intrigued by the Pog story that came out today. #readingfc

ZacNaloen Drenthes contract would have naturally expired by now, no way we are subsidising it.

I'd be surprised if we were, and I'm not sure the article actual says we are, but it is possible that we could still be contributing something if that's what needed to be done to get him off the wage bill.

If we still owed him £500k in wages when he was sold we might've done a deal to cover £150k of it whilst his new club picked up the rest. We might've negotiated to pay that £150k over the two years of his new contract. All a made up scenario of course, but I don't think it's too far fetched to think that's happened elsewhere at times (I think there was a Robbie Fowler deal that was similar years ago, probably just before he signed for us...).

As for Pogrebnyak's wage rise, if it were anywhere near true, then it's basically just a loyalty bonus for staying (as if he could've left!) that was agreed with Zingaravich when he signed. It's not like we've suddenly thought we should be paying him another £10k or so because otherwise we're at a risk of losing him to Real Madrid!

If this is true, maybe those who still insist that Madejski won't let anything bad happen to the club will have a rethink.

If true, he Howe, Hammond etc. kept quiet and let this happen when they should have been blowing the whistle. Yes, thanks to Madejski's lunacy in selling a small controlling interest in the club with no way of forcing the completion through, he couldn't actually stop the Russian, but fan/media power can have some effect. Also, if the club was being that badly managed, maybe he, Howe and Hammond should have done the principled thing and resigned their positions in protest.

And as others have said, you can hardly criticise Pog and his agent for negotiating and agreeing to such a lucrative deal - it would seem they were better at negotiating water-tight deals with Zingarevich than Madejski was!

So, you're saying that as soon as Madejski, Howe, and Hammond realised that Zingarevich didn't have as much money as they were led to believe, they should have resigned and left him to it? How would that have helped us at all?

There was also no reason for them to "blow the whistle". Pogrebnyak was offered that deal because it was thought he was going to play a big role in keeping us in the Premier League, which would have enabled us to keep paying those wages. It was no secret he was on a lot of money. We as fans mostly wanted it. It's only a bad deal in hindsight.

And of course, Pogrebnyak negotiated the deal with the club, not Zingarevich. Again, would you prefer Madejski had negotiated a watertight deal with Zingarevich, forced him to take a huge loan to pay for the second 49%, then sold to the first unscrupulous character who offered him his money back?

We all understand that you don't like Madejski, but this is utterly ridiculous.

Might be some truth in it. Didn't Zigic have a similar clause at Birmingham that his salary went up every year which got him up to 60k per week in his fourth season? It may also explain why Jem, Pearce and Feds couldn't be offered more money to keep them.

Also, Hammond has clearly been side lined recently. Smells of gardening leave to me. Not heard from him in months.

I really trusted him to make the right decisions for this club. I fear for us if he has no say.

Next manager - Carlton Palmer

No. Not if I was already on way more than I was worth and I was crippling the business. In fact I'd voluntarily take a pay cut.

This stinks of bull to me. I'm not convinced we were paying him that much in the PL. Drenthe stuff sounds toss too.
