Rollerbob Not sure if its all that terrible or not. Here's some handy corner stats:

On average, 1 in 13 corners results in a shot on goal.

On average, when there is a shot on goal from a corner, only 1 in 13 actually goes in the net.

Now, I can't be arsed to actually do the math and work out whether that makes Reading terrible at corners, or just average.

That would mean only one corner in 169 goes in, which seems incredibly unlikely.

Stats suggest about 3% of corners result in a goal, so not too far off one in 30.

The champions league had 1 in 46 going in

3points Corners were awful today. Not one gave Cooper a chance with a header

I think Bristol may have spotted the tactic of 'kick it vaguely near the tallest guy on the pitch' because Cooper was double marked and held back on every corner and free kick.

Agreed. I made a comment a couple of days ago that we only really have our two centre backs attack the ball. Everyone else just stands around so it's easy to mark just two players. Most goals scored from corners is when the opposition get their marking "wrong" which is usually as a result of a defender getting partially blocked and not being goal side or losing the attacker completely

No goals in the league from 284 consecutive corners. Even given the law of averages for scoring from corners that has to be something pretty awful.

Soon be able to celebrate the anniversary of the last one (at about 20 past 4 on Sunday 17th January). Perhaps we should invite the Pog back to talk us through the moment he scored before it gets lost in the mists of time and scoring from corners becomes a thing of Robin Friday v Tranmere proportions...

Oh, and the other "record" we need to change is the fact that Reading have not won a league game after conceding first since 26 April 2014.

As the scoring stats are so poor why do we get so excited when we actually win a corner?

I said more or less exactly this at the game.

Also yelled at Gunter at an earlier match to keep the ball in when it was going out for a throw in for us - given how we're most likely to give it str8 back.

We shouldn't
But then nobody should really as only 3% result in a goal
(Someone will no doubt point out that teams score from less than 3% of attacks and therefore you should get excited!)

Interesting topic this, to think some people used to berate Harte for not clearing the 1st man sometimes

I saw some stats re corners and how often goals are scored from them. In the PL, its one goal for approx every 60 corners taken. I bet most people would think it was lower? So whilst none from 150 odd is poor, a couple of goals from them and you are suddenly average.

At least Blackman won't be taking the corners anymore

Harte did have a few stopped by the first man but that trajectory if it just missed that man was devastating. I remember one game in particular promotion season against possibly Barnsley or Charlton where every Harte corner caused chaos and a blind panic in the defence. Notwood's just look a bit too floaty by comparison.

Yeah, exactly. 2 or 3 cleared at the near post, next one a goal or at least chaos. The amount of people in the ground that simply couldn't grasp the fact he was trying to just clear the 1st man. Although I shouldn't be surprised. Actually people stood up having pop at him despite all the goals he created from set pieces. You really don't get many better corner takers than him in any league in the world, let alone at tier 2 level.

We should sign Lee Holmes from Exeter. He seems to have the right idea.

We scored from one! Decent header from big Jake. Our tactics at corners definitely seem to have changed. No more long floaty back post corners. Still don't like seeing our left back taking corners though.

Only another 180 or so to wait until the next one now.

Can almost guarantee we will score from a corner in our next game. That's how this shit works isn't it?

People have been chucking around various figures, some claiming we hadn't scored in a year.. despite Hector clearly getting one from a corner in the last game of last season.
