Crusader Royal Doesn’t ALF have the best goals per minutes played in the PL ?

I think he did, until Robo-Haaland came along.

Probably depends on how it’s defined as well - how many minutes / goals qualify you.

Fox Talbot One of the Nottingham clubs is south of the Trent so the phrase usually goes ‘south of the banks of the Trent’ …

We have equal share in longest unbeaten run in second tier it’s 33 games, shared with Liverpool.

Used to have longest unbeaten home run in the league 55 games in early 1930s. Lasted til 1967. Probably still in the top five in that category.

Reading’s record of unbeaten home games was taken by Millwall who did 59. Currently the record is 86 for Chelsea then 68 for Liverpool. Liverpool also took the FL record with 63. So would say Reading are now 5th overall.

No, but he's close.

Of retired players who have scored at least 7 goals, only Aguero and Henry are ahead of him.

Among current players, Haaland and Duran are ahead of him. Duran is a similar case to Le Fondre, lots of goals from the bench and not many starts, but more games and goals than Alfie. If he ever comes back to England then you'd think he'd fall off.

Crusader Royal 50% of the record for highest scoring PL game
50% of record for highest scoring League Cup game

The FA cup entries one is debateable. Presumably people are trying to say we’ve entered the cup more times than any other ‘current’ league team.
We’re the oldest club south of the Trent aren’t we ? Not in the South of England.

Reading first entered the FA Cup in 1877 and have entered in every year since. Believe that only Maidenhead United can better that and Notts equal it.

Aren’t Marlow the club that can better it ? Although IIRC they have entered every year but withdrew without playing one year.
The record is really just ‘most entries in the FA Cup though’. Making it about league clubs in meaningless.

To clarify on all this:

(Great) Marlow (Marlow were sometimes known as Great Marlow in the club’s early years) and Maidenhead United are the only teams to have applied to enter every FA Cup competition (bar 1 each) since its inception in 1871/72. Maidenhead didn’t compete in 1876 and Marlow in 1910.

There were no current Premier/Football League sides that entered the FA Cup until 1877/78 when 3 clubs that would become future league sides entered (Reading, Notts County and Darwen). Of the 3, Darwen no longer exist (wound up in 2009 and replaced by a Phoenix club - AFC Darwen, now just Darwen) while both County and the ‘ding have entered the competition every year since.

The Reading record here is that they are the current league club with the most FA Cup defeats as Notts won the tournament in 1894. But obvs. Marlow and Maidenhead have that record for all cup entrants.

There is also a share in a record of the current league club with most FA Cup appearances.

Hendo Only team to finish second in the 2nd tier and not be promoted?

The caveat to that would "...since automatic promotion was introduced". In the early days the top and bottom clubs had play-offs.

The obvious one is the heaviest defeat, 0-18 v Preston.

We used to also hold the heaviest home defeat of any professional club, but Sheffield United 0-8 and Southamption 0-9 surpassed that in the last few years.

Think he'll struggle to change his PL record though.

Re Tmesis above and heaviest home defeat for a pro club.

We’ve never held that record. Port Vale lost 0-10 in Div 2 in the 1890s.

What we might have, it’s obscure, is the record HOME defeat in an FA Cup REPLAY. This was suggested in 1968 when we lost 0-7 to Man City at Elm Park after getting a 0-0 up there. Later in the season City won the League.

The BBC are running a piece currently on Burnley's long run without conceding.

Interestingly they are quoting the EFL record as 10 games held by Torquay in L2 in 2010 (less than Steve Death).

So that being the case Death will always hold the old football league record as van der Sarr was after the Premier League split.

Utterly ******* useless BBC being their utterly ******* useless selves again. The FL didn’t waste money rebranding itself as the EFL until 2016 so how do Torquay have any EFL record in 2010?

Don't we hold the record for the team which has been knocked out of the FA cup more times than anyone else on account of never winning it, never missing a season, still existing and being around from 1871? - Would happily trade that record in for winning the damn thing!

Ady Williams wearing every number 1-11 might be unique, but I doubt it.

Most Pairs of Pants thrown on the pitch during a football match

Guinness World Record for the highest abseil from a helicopter when the Army/RAF delivered the match ball from a Sea King at the Madejski stadium

Possibly most helicopters on the pitch before kick off (two - a gazelle and a lynx)

In the Guinness book of records is it?

Think we should go for a record number of fortune cookies thrown during a sporting event next.

Alf scored most goals as a sub. in one season I believe this Premier League record still stands.

Played in the highest scoring Premier League game. (13 I think and equal with another game, but don't know who).

11, not tied

7-4 vs Portsmouth

Also tied for second highest scoring game (6-4 vs spurs, tied with a fair few others, United 8 Arsenal 2 likely the most famous but there's a end of season 5-5 draw as a bunch of players achieved their bonus payments that day)

EDIT for typo

It was United 8-2 Arsenal in August 2011.

I'm amazed that no-one has come out with the fact that, by dint of being in the Royal County, we never need to wear an away strip.

Or is that Preston?

I’d guess that not being a record it’s not germane to the thread ?
