Ian Royal Don't talk rubbish. If you want to talk about which player from the current crop has the talent to get an England call up then that should be the discussion. But it isn't, it's which Royal's (Reading FC) player will be the first to get an England call up. Herbert Smith. End of discussion.
If anything Herbert's achievement is far greater than any of our current players should they get a call up as he will never have played at the top level of English football for us.
You are a blinkered tosser and your original reply was down right offensive.

Also correct pardon my ignorance re.Herbert Smith I only started supporting Reading in 1972 so can be viewed as a newbie.SWLR Big Ern & Ian Royal
I'm touched that my clarification of the title of the thread can bring you both so close together. I'm sure you will have many happy hobnob days together.
However, let me give your more opportunity to extend your lovefest.....Clearly the thread was pointing to the future i.e. is there anyone in the current squad who can make it? Correct- that was my intention.
So while Herbert Smith's achievement should be heralded, the reality is that in the modern game for a current player to break through will be the greater achievement.

exileinleeds Of the current team, the one I could see getting into an England shirt would be Lita, he is young, and has the potential.

the official record books show him as a Swifts players despite the fact that he was Reading captain at the time and only occasionally guested for Swifts.

Well, no actually.
The first Reading player to play for England was Edward Haygarth in 1875. Johnny Holt was the second in 1900 and Herbert Smith the third in 1905.
You could perhaps be forgiven for missing out Haygarth as the official record books show him as a Swifts players despite the fact that he was Reading captain at the time and only occasionally guested for Swifts.
There is of course no excuse at all for ignoring Johnny Holt, nor for those choosing to act like complete arseholes in this thread which was posing a perfectly legitimate question about who might be next.

Top Flight I think James Henry will be the first Royal since Herbert Smith to wear the three lions on his chest!

No Hoops Kitson, that's why he turned down Ireland.
He'll bang in 15 by the end of the season and play in a friendly during the summer.
IMHO

Top Flight To be completely honest. None of our current squad will ever wear the three lions in a full first team international!
So this thread is pretty tough because no one knows who will be playing for us in the future. Out of our current squad to select from...... As good as Shorey and Sidwell are, unfortunately they are not quite good enough to play for England. They could both get in the Andorra side but not the England side!
