It was quite lucky that we didn't score that night against Orient, as I attended the match against doctors' orders having left hospital after an appendictomy only 4 hours earlier. The wound was a little weepy afterwards, even so.

cmonurz I disagree. Our midfield is severely lacking, and we are going to struggle to win away from home this season. I am also not convinced that Doyle or Lita can match their goals tally of last season.

A lot of fans on this board just assumed we'd finish 8th again. Doyle currently looks like a £80,000 forward and don't get me wrong he's better than that, but his form highlights exactly what second season syndrome is all about.

Coppell definately made a mistake not signing a striker (better than what we already had) and possibly farming Shane Long out on loan. All the teams know exactly what our strikers do and we haven't tried to change it.

Although having a fit Kitson back is just like signing a new striker. Most teams haven;t played against him (certainly not against a properly fit Kitson) and he adds a totally different dimension to our attack.

Don't disgree that signing an extra forward wouldn;t have been good, not convinced about Long on loan !

Having Kitson back fully fit is like signing a borderline Championship/Premiership striker, and does not add the additional quality to the side that we require.

That depends entirely on how highly you rate Kitson though surely.

Contrary to most on here no doubt , i happen to think given an injury free run ( yeah i know!) he's actually the best forward we have. I also think that Kitson & Lita is the best strike combination as well.

I can;t see how anyone can classify Kitson so precisely given that he'd probably had less than 45 minutes proper playing time at this level.

I think he's an intelligent and skilful player possibly lacking a touch of pace.

He certainly has the game to be effective at this level and having him back most certainly gives us a better set of options than we had last season.

Adding Anelka or Yakubu would have been nice but unrealistic.

The 17 Bus Sonks wont be happy at being ignored.

Yep. Excludes Sonko who at least is back into some form of training/football but includes Little who is crocked with no imminent sign of return.

So no, I haven't calmed down because we are still bereft of a dedicated and class right winger.

I for one can remember only too well some of the 'football' and dire performances we had to endure the last time Sir Steve had to consistently put out a team without proper good wingers.

i reckon that's harsh in Kits.

he looked very good when he came on against West Ham

Doyle is definitely good enough and will bounce back. He is entitled to have a bad patch at some stage and is not getting a lot of chances at the moment.
Lita blows hot and cold. When he is playing well he looks like a handful but he needs to hold up and use the ball better.
Long has pace, good in the hair and seems strong but hasn't progressed that much. Not sure he has a footballing brain and unconvinced he is Premiership quality.
Kitson does have a footballing brain, links up play well, good in the air but does lack pace to scare defenders and picks up his share of injuries. He may prove his worth in the Prem but too early to say as he has not started many games at this level yet...
Maybe another striker required come the New Year

It excludes Sonko because I forgot. Really it would include him. But Oster is good enough for the time being and can help us get results. But of course right wing needs to be addressed in January if Little has no hope of returning. But overall we are in good shape and we can get enough results in the Premier League with the players we have. But if we want to build we need to sign more new players.

[quote="Steve Coppell said rather than"] “Time will tell. I’m the one to take the flak if I’ve made bad decisions.

I made the decision last week that we wouldn’t do a lot of trading and to a certain extent that was because I had a lot of faith and confidence in this squad of players.

I must admit that faith is being put severely to the test at the moment.

or improve the ones we have, we need to sign better players than we have otherwise. Give us a fully fir squad and we will be fine.

Anyone know what the situation is wrt Oster's injury? If claimed sightings of him in a leg brace are true, that would suggest his return may be some way off.

Problem is: no reports in papers or on OS

OS does have reports of Oster's injury and pleasing news on Little and Sonko

Oster is reported as having had a slight injury, Sonko is improving and moving to full training 'over the next few weeks' and Little:

'He's made great improvements over the last week or two, and is doing preparation work to get himself running over the next few weeks.'
