'Pathetically, the home fans abused the Liverpool captain intermittently, reminding him of his part in England’s failure to qualify
for the European Championship. They loved it when he was booked, and were in their element when he was taken off. '

How dare they!

I just re-read the opening paragraph.....Liverpool had five legitimate penalty appeals?

I too couldn't believe the Lovejoy report in what is supposed to be a reputable paper.

I have written to Mr Lovejoy and the Editor (for what it's worth) basically suggesting he's a twat but with a little more diplomacy in the hope he'll read my comments shared by RFC faithful.

Far Canal I think that the Times write-up is the most biased report that I have ever posted on this forum.

Pretty shocking report I agree. Bring back the totally unbiased Russell Kempson

As for the "pathetic booing" of Steven Gerrard, what is that about?? I hate, with an absolute passion, fans booing their own players, but why the oxf*rd can't you boo the opposition?? They're big lads, Mr Lovejoy, I think they'll be able to get through the match without breaking down and crying

We all know Gerrard is quality, doesn't mean people can't boo when the whinging scouse gets taken off!! That said, I think booing Torres when he was clearly injured was a bit pathetic (in the same vein as booing Cech for having his skull fractured. How thoughtless of him  )

It got worse!!......

Talking about Benitez taking off Gerrard and Torres with a view to saving them for Marseille it says........

"He gave up. Threw in the towel. Surrendered. With 20 minutes to go...plus added time. And you can certainly score two, maybe three goals against Reading in 20 whole minutes. Most teams do"

What absolute tossers

Well I couldnt give a flying fcuk, MOTD cleared up any discussion we had at my uni - bar, hoardes of wind-up merchants claiming it was WAY outside the area, only for the analyisis to show that Bryns foot was on the line when contact was made, so technology was even on our side. I just sat there with a beer in hand and a smile on my face :D

...and in any case, what kind of pathetic excuse is it: 'I took the guy out but I just managed to do it before he reached the box, so you can't punish us'.

Carragher should be grateful he didn't get a red card

There are two pics of Gunnars penalty win in the NOTW...both implying that he went to ground too early.

(for those that have seen them) I am still trying to work out how the two pictures related to that same single occurrance :?:

Just about all those "professional" journos from the nationals informed the world the foul was outside the box, only for TV to prove every one of them wrong.

Most of them had their story written before the match. Just look at the number of photographers behind Marcus's goal ready to get pics of their scousers' goals.

Good thing we get a much fairer hearing on Match of the Day.

Liverpool stumble to defeat
Reading 3 Liverpool 1

Whinge, whinge, penalties all wrong, whinge.

I hope he watched match of the day and feels a little sheepish now.

From The Times' better reporter (his player ratings seem unfairly low though, and he claims Liverpool should have had one penalty):

Rafael Benitez forced to throw in the towel after his plan backfires

Russell Kempson at Madejski Stadium

Fighting on four fronts, juggling the combined and counter demands of the Champions League, the Barclays Premier League, FA Cup and Carling Cup, is nigh on impossible. And in which order of preference? Champions League or Premier League first? Then FA Cup or Carling Cup? Who plays, who rests, who is replaced mid-match?

Such is the wicked conundrum facing Rafael BenÃ

Unfortunately, I was driving whilst the game was being played, so I haven't seen it. However, I was listening to 909 and both the commentator (Alan Green?) and Stan Colleymore were praising Sonko for keeping Torres quiet. Yet the newspapers say that Sonko had a shocker.

So, can anyone who was at the game tell me whether Sonks had a great game or a shocker?
