Tails For me its a resounding yes. Why spend your whole life fighting to get to the premiership and reaching the pinnacle of english football and then be so ready to get relegated. Peoples anwsers well inevitably be defined by their level of ambition, being a bigger fish in a smaller pond...or a small fish in a big pond. Tell me, how many times have we actually 'won' anything when we were in the lower leagues? a championship? the simond cup?.......

But you've gotta admit it would be fun to try and get promoted again - rather than, as most people say, always fight relegation winning about 8 games a season

Emphatically YES

There's a greater sense of achievement i a 1-1 away draw in the prem than a 0-4 away win in the championship.

The quality of football is far higher, the level of media coverage is far higher, it would be hard to be enthusiastic about the championship (and lower) having experienced the prem.

TheRealRoyal Ok heres another question for you;
If we dont get relegated, what next?
Were never going to win the league and atm getting into the top 10 looks like to much of a challenge so what are we actually achieving by staying in this league apart form heartache?

The club (i.e. JM) is getting shedloads of money, which he has the choice of either sticking in the bank or spending more and more of it on player's wages. If he does the latter he is more likely to ensure the incoming of shedloads of money continue for longer, but he will have less spare as the players' wages will keep going up to match the income. And if he does the latter and it fails then the financial consequences could be devastating for all concerned.

But the club (and, by implication, him) will also stay in the limelight.

So the only thing we are doing in the premiership is boosting JM's bank account?

Effectively, yes. The alternative is boosting the ban accounts of players, their agents, local Ferrari and Bentley dealers etc etc etc.

Of course, the "customers" get to see a "higher level" of football and opponent (which doesn't mean, to me, the same as "best" or "more entertaining") but that just has the effect of uplifting demand - it doesn't make things better for the customers, it just ensures there are more of them and that the long-term ones are more marginalised.

Sad but true, I'm afraid, it you take it all down to the bare bones.

I know not everybody sees it the same way but as far as i'm concerned every victory we have in the Premier League against opposition that have much spent an absolute shedload of cash , i count as the equivalent of a cup upset. I don't want to get dragged into yet another debate about Sunderland again but frankly I take more satisfaction from our current position given how we've gone about it than theirs given the money they've spent in the last 2 years.

Of course nothing lasts forever but as things stand i actually look on how we go about things as a club with a sense of pride rather than the overwhelming embarrassment it seems to bring out in some others.

If/when relegation does follow it will hurt because ultimately it will constitute failure but theres an awful lot of shit associated with being a Premier League club that i would be more than happy to miss.

I like the Premiership but i have concerns about all these investors coming in and spending so much money and then financial problems might happen later on down the line. I wouldn't want to end up like Leeds and over invest and then suffer.

I very much doubt we're boosting JM#'s bank account in the prem. Depleting it less maybe.

Seeing as I ma pretty much on my own in the "no" camp I suppose I had better add some reasoning behind it. I onviously support Reading and have done so for many years, but as I am stumping up a lot of cash for that priviledge I also want to enjoy watching the football. For me that enjoyment has taken a serious knock this season and it will continue to do so whilst the best we can hope for is a mid-table finish. Of course I want us to be competing with the best teams in the country but there is a trade-off.

Can you either change the title or close this pointless thread?

If only one person minds if we get relegated, the answer is "Yes". ... next question?

On the current wage structure and current TV deal surely we have to be increasing it - and I'd imagine also that the outstanding loans (which were all to JM) would have been paid off as well.

I doubt it. I'd expect most of that money to pay off debts we'd run up over the last god knows how long. Howabout not draining from it as much. I seriously doubt he's getting profit out of us.

WR has hit the nail on the head with his use of the word "competing" - I want us to be in a situation where we can compete with Arsenal week after next, not just play against them.

Having a realistic change of beating Bury >>>>>>>>> Losing to Man Utd/ Chelsea et al because of the inequality of finances.

Well, yes.

For those who say they don't mind as we'll stand a chance of winning the division below, it's more competitive etc....well surely that's fairly academic. We go down, have a good season and end up back where we started. Or we never return and have the odd decent season where we make the play-offs and lose.

Ditto,

Would also be interesting to know; who of the current STH will not renew if we go down.

Personally I will be keeping mine; but wont be able to make the mid-week games.

At least that will be one more season of excitement than we are currently getting.........
