He was a good manager for us, but he's still a twat. Believe me, when Charlton return I won't be thinking of the good work he did to us, but the way he just cut ties with us and acted like he owed us nothing when West Ham came along. We were in a hopeless state when Pardew took over.
Pardew started the push to the top division and Coppell finished it off. We were playing very very well when Pardew left. It took us well over a season to get back to square one.
If Coppell is/was the Saviour, then Pardew was John the Baptist.

Just generally. My comments were directed at no-one in particular. Because of the way he went, I don't think Pardew is given the credit he deserves for his work in turning us around and getting us going in the right direction. I think, for his own sake, he was very wrong to go and could well have taken us up himself before Coppell actually did.

Pards did a great job, preventing us falling back into our old pre 90's mediocrity. He built the club up to challenging towards the top of the championship and gave us belief we really were good enough to sustain that and push on. He brought a level of expectancy and publicity to the club. These things can't be underrated.

Then of course he left like a dirty cock monkey, but he has never, to my knowledge, said anything bad about the club since leaving, dispite all the shit he got, unlike McGhee.

He built the skeleton and Coppell fleshed it out and gave it nice shiny skin and details.
