Nick Shorey my Lord! Well it's not telling us anything we didn't already know. The team fell out with each other and we played like donkeys as a result.

I think his comments about a lack of a leader are an indirect swipe at Coppell's management when we were up against it last year.

There you go

Found this bit interesting:

While Pulis’s long-ball tactics have been criticised even by other managers — in a West Brom match-day programme last season it was suggested that Stoke “train with cannons rescued from local medieval ruins . . . footballs are loaded into them and fired into the distance for Mamady Sidibe to head and Ricardo Fuller to run after” — Reading also played a direct game.

Whilst it's true that we were a bit 'direct' last season, I don't think anyone could say that about our play in 2005/6. That was much more about flowing football.

There's a lesson there somewhere...

We were very direct, but some of our directness came from panicking defenders hoofing the ball to safety becuase they were worried a lightning quick premiership forward would come and nick it off them. Hopefully, the defense and midlfield can relax a bit more this year once they realise we don't have to play hoof and hope anymore.

And again, perhaps not at all that unfounded ... ?

The idea of a bling/non-bling split makes sense. Please tell me we've kept the non-bling.

(Goes away, looks at team sheet. L. Lita ...)

bugger

Except that teams did criticise us for being 'direct'. Southampton, for one, but I remember several comments of "they did nothing, broke quickly and scored". What we did well was absorb pressure then break down the wings before crossing. It was direct but ... measured? Precise?

Not sure that really labels the manager as the finger pointer - more the kids in the playground

Probably Coppell should have bange heads together more, but was then threatened by people saying they would walk anyway...

The joys of man management, its so easy on paper

The kids in the playground?

To me it's obviously a swip at figures within the setup. Is it the manager, his staff, the players or a mix of all three? Probanly the latter.

Looks quite blatantly a pop at the players to me. Kitson is hardly likely to try and disguise a pop at Coppell given how candid he usually is.

When Murty was out we had no one to lead on the pitch, when Murty was there he tended to point fingers too much.

IMO it's one of the reasons Coppell is making Harps captain. Ivar is too quiet and has been off his best for a while. Harps' enthusiasm and drive is presumably intended to inspire. Not working at the moment, but it's one game in.

But the aticle was saying how things changed between seasons.

Yes he praised him for the way he got the squad together, but that doesn't mean he is excluded from his criticism of the way the whole thing fell apart.

Correct, obviously the manager has to take some of the blame as well. However the bit you're highlighting is specifically about players and has nothing to do with Coppell.

Kitson blames egos for the drop

by rotherwick_royal » 14 Aug 2008 12:14

Yet another controversial interview from Kits, but an insight I don't think we've had before...

http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528, ... 87,00.html

The fact that we 'didn't freshen things up' and still haven't this year is a big worry. If that mentality still prevails we'll be lucky to finish mid-table in the Championship.
