cmonurz Well we scored 99 goals in 2005-06. I'd say 100 goals might be within reach, points record or not.

I was speaking to a Wolves fan recently who was telling me that we played them off the park and are far too good for this division. If other people think that, why can't it be true?

Now we're in motion, I don't think it's unreasonable to expect better than 05/06. I was so disapointed when Burnley scored, mirroring how temporarily mental their fans went. So I was treating a 3-1 win like a loss because we didn't have another clean sheet...

SCIAG Kebe is nowhere near Little's level.

He isn't far away. Where he lacks in the pin-point accuracy he makes up for it in the pace and sheer scaring the defence.

SCIAG Hunt is nowhere near Convey's previous (05-06) level.

Strongly disagree. Convery was great, but at the moment Hunt looks far better than Bobby did in 05/06. The problem is we'll only have him for another 3 months.

SCIAG Shorey was better than Armstrong is

Probably. But Armstrong has been with us for 7 (?) games now and is getting better and better ever game. He's no free kick or corner specialist obviously, but Hunt has taken over from that now and he's doing better (free kicks into the box are now almost always expecting a goal for us, and how many have we scored from corners that SHunt has taken? Probably more in the 10 games so far than we did in the whole of the 05/06 season).

SCIAG and I'd probably take Kitson over Hunt.

No thanks. I think we've done better with that deal personally.

SCIAG Please note: I'm not knocking any players, it's just they pale in comparison to their predecessors.

I know, and I'm not having a go at you either, just putting my points across.

Stuff that one, I'm still waiting for the season where they improve on the 13 straight league wins from the start.

I can't see anyone beating that points record, let alone us 3 seasons lafter setting it. We've played 10 games, I know things are going well, but please, get a grip on yourselves and reintroduce reality.

It is possible we could get 107. But unless we go on a 10 game winning streak, there really isn't much point in even entertaining the smallest possibility it may happen any time before the end of january. Maybe not even then.

Are you suggesting that we don't even speculate as to how that feat could be achieved?

At this stage? Pretty much, yes.

'greed.

I was only being slightly tongue-in-cheek on Gus' thread.

Right, back to work everybody, "Ian Royal" says we're not allowed to speculate. What a pointless member of a forum you are.

I'd be happy with an average of 2pts a game, as that usually is enough to get promotion.

Don't be a tart. I'm saying theres no point talking about this specific topic yet, because it's massively premature.

You might as well talk about what points total we'll have after 10 games in two years time.

FYI in the last 16 years of the English Football League(4 divisions) 100 points has only been broken 6 times. By 5 Teams. Of those 6 only 2 have gone as high as 105.

Incidently Shrewbury in League 2 have the lowest total for champions in the last 16 years at 79 pts.

Frankly we have far more relevant things to discuss right now. Like what colour socks Ron Grant might be wearing today.

It's definitely doable.

It's not unreasonable to aim for it, and in doing so easily to go beyond 92 points and achieve promotion.

It's fantastic that the mood has switched overnight from gloom to such optimism. A credit to the lads. There's nothing wrong with aiming for 107. Lets go for it.

Of which we are averaging at this very moment.

NHunt and BK are going nowhere in Jan. FACT. SHunt I will be surprised to see in a Reading shirt after Jan, and Doyle, well... The club that were interested are bottom of the Prem... Just don't know about how he'll be feeling in Jan and which clubs might come in for him.

Whilst I agree it's unlikely, if anyone's going to break the record it's far more likely to be us just after setting it surely! Same manager, many of the same players etc... more likely not less.

Agree it's a bit of a longshot though.

But if anyone is going to do it ever it's us, so might as well giev it a go :)

I'd say the odds were more against it. Fulham are the only team to break 100 twice as far back as I could find records for. (16 years) They did it in tier 3 and 2.

I'm not sayin git won't be beaten, or that it won't be us. It's just so unlikely and there are so many variables that it isn't really worth thinking about now.

We set the points record taking 1 game at a time and trying to get promoted. I don't see why we should change that attitude. Look after each game as it comes and the points record will fall or stand. Setting a target of beating it is more likely to be counter productive IMO. It's not much use failing your season's target after 20 games is it!

I'll be delighted with 86 points and 75 goals...

Of course, 100 of each would be even better.

Can one of you Excel spods come up with some comparison graphs between this year and 05/06 on an ongoing basis, and a maximum target graph and, oh, that points target for promotion one was good, too... You know the sort of thing.

Thanking you.
