Snowball The reason I post stats is because of the idiotic posts on this list.

It is always MERE OPINION and posted as near-absolute certainty

If you read the threads on the Preston game as one example, you will see Shane praised and rubbished, Harps praised and rubbished, Lita praised and rubbished, Doyle praised and rubbished, what exactly is the POINT of all that crap?

It's just NOISE, chattering masses.

People come on here with pre-set opinions and 99% of them rigidly refuse to change them.

It's not DEBATE, it's a childish shouting match.

If half the lists says Lita Good, and the other half says Lita bad, too bloody right I will point out that in the last two seasons he has played 15 games and 7 more as sub, and scored 2 goals. BECAUSE THAT IS A FACT, NOT AN OPINION

I don't think a discussion board's really your thing is it?

It is fact, not opinion, that Leroy Lita has scored more goals in the Championship this season than Shane Long.

It is fact, not opinion, that Leroy Lita has been deemed worthy of more playing time by his managers in the Championship this season than Shane Long.

It is fact, not opinion, that Leroy Lita scored as many league goals in 05-06 as Shane Long has in his entire career.

It is fact, not opinion, that I will willingly eat a kilogram of sushi if Shane Long ever reaches 60 league goals in his career, which is Lita's current total.

I think you'll find that if you ignore goals scored when the moon is in the tropic of cancer, goals against teams with the letter 'o' in them and count double for goals scored against keepers with the star sign Libra, this isn't the case.

1 - Yes, it's a fact. The importance and meaning of that fact is a matter of interpretation, which is partly a matter of subjective opinion. You really need to start building an argument around these facts, rather than stating them in isolation as if they prove anything on their own.

2 - Care to actually answer the posts that bring up issues with your statistics?

Snowball, find me one, just one, form guide, which goes on precisely the last thirteen games.

It's as useless as saying we've averaged 1.9 points for the last 31 games.

Southbank Old Boy It might be relevant but **cked if I'm bothering to read any more of his spamming like stats that dont add anything to a serious discussion on how the team are actually playing

But this site DOESN'T "discuss" anything.

Here is a typical "discussion".

Harper is sh!te.
Nah Harper is vital to the club.
No he's s!te, shoulda gon ta Boro
He's important yer blins g!t
he's a blind crab d!chead.

Go to line 1 and repeat.

Come on then, the lot of you. How many times since you have been in this forum has the DISCUSSION
persuaded you to change your opinion of a player or the team?

Unless we score in our next few matches the highest number of points we will get per game will be 1.

FACT

Discuss.

I totally agree. The trouble is he has played a heck of a lot more games so SHOULD HAVE SCORED MORE

On starts, on minutes, he's LESS of a scorer than Long. THAT IS ALSO A FACT

cmonurz It is fact, not opinion, that Leroy Lita has been deemed worthy of more playing time by his managers in the Championship this season than Shane Long.

Or to put it another way. He started for Reading in the first few games and was so bad he was dropped
to the bench. Then he sulked and asked to go out on loan, and a desperate club took him on.

Long, OTOH, has been loyal and patient, and 21 (until ten days ago) remained available to the club, and gets his minutes.

The fact that SSC changed things around is hardly a surprise. He may well see Hunt=Lita as the quick little man
and Doyle=Long as the bigger one. And Hunt WAS injured, correct?

Your logic says he prefers Lita to Hunt because he started him Saturday and that is plain dumb.

cmonurz It is fact, not opinion, that Leroy Lita scored as many league goals in 05-06 as Shane Long has in his entire career.

It is a fact that Shane Long has scored THREE TIMES as many goals for Reading as Lita THIS SEASON, AND Last Season
and it is also a fact that, unlike Lita's two last-minute fourth-goals of four in a 4-0) they MATTERED

cmonurz It is fact, not opinion, that I will willingly eat a kilogram of sushi if Shane Long ever reaches 60 league goals in his career, which is Lita's current total.

I hope you like Sushi.

I hate sushi. If I thought Long would reach 60 league goals in his career I would have chosen cheeseburgers.

I didn't use a form-guide, I wanted to see exactly HOW we had caught Birmingham and Wolves
so I went to the date we were behind twelve and six points respectively

It HAPPENS to be 13 games. It might have been 15 or 14 or 12 or 11, but it was actually 13.

That's also why I first was looking at 11 games for Cardiff because they missed two in the same time-period

I'm just amused at how storming up the league, going from 6 behind Birmingham to two
in front of them (in 13 games) cause this miserable list to complain

You should be Plymouth supporters.

As for the own-goal is not "scored by us", does that mean if we lose a couple
of games to own goals we can say, "hey we are scoring, and demand the points?

Own goals come about because of tempo, aggression, pressure. It may have been a dick of a goal
but it still required the pressure cross and the interference from Noel Hunt

So you think he won't reach 60. What odds are you offering?

Presumably 100-1?

I believe he will get 10-20-30 in a season, probably 2010-11

the 30 might be in League 1 but I think he will make the grade

Snowball, you spectacularly missed my point re my 'facts' on Lita, my point being that facts alone, such as those I presented on Lita, mean absolutely diddly squat. There are some who have no time for Lita, others who feel he is an asset to the club. Stats on their own might mean something if they said 'Shane Long/Leroy Lita scored 40 goals last season' but they don't. You can break down the minutae of their performances but the fact (LOL) is that both have under-achieved in the last couple of years.

It is the 'opinion' of their relative merits that determines who plays each week, and I'd say that we have to respect Coppell's opinion that Lita is showing enough to warrant a place in the starting line-up. Certainly, on the basis of Lita's performances in the last two matches, and relative to those of Doyle and Long, it is a place that he currently deserves.

On this analysis we can still finish second even if we carry on producing our current form, as long as every team maintains their current form :!:

but according to the same site, based on our last 8 matches we'd only be 8th in the table

http://stats.football365.com/dom/ENG/D1/oform.html

...although interestingly our next opponents, Bristol City, would be top.
