Norfolk Royal
swansea jack Crewe 3 - 4 Reading, Feb 2006.

Worked 'Up t'North' all week with a Urz mate and stayed the Friday night to catch this game on the way back home. Mate bought tickets from the ticket office on the day and came back with two seats in row D. I took them back and asked for a higher row only to be told that there was only Row E available. Bit miffed but took them anyway and entered the ground only to find that the stand, behind the goal, only had 5 rows of seats.

Sang 'Come in a taxi', 'Is that all you bring away' & 'Shall we sing a song for you' along with about 50 others to all the Urz fans, probably some 2,500, in the stand alongside the pitch. Funny and a touch surreal

Great game, great atmosphere, great non-league ground and a superb chippy there too!

I may be missing something there, but since when has Gresty Road been a non-league ground?

Yeah, noted. Meant that the stand we were in had a bit of a non-league feel.

Sun Tzu I'm pretty sure that 1-0 game against Orient wasn;t against Chesterfield and didn't finish 2-1, but I could be wrong !!

It was an FA Trophy game (cannot remember what that was all about...) and I got in free becasue I happened to run into someone in the car park who had a box and invited me to join them. I was still ripped off....

Just checked back, it indeed was an Autowindscreens Shield game, attendance 1,561!

I kid you not, I once watched us score 4 goals and lose the game by 3 clean goals!

Jackson Corner I went to the first round of the Simod cup away to QPR. I was working in London at the time. On there plastic pitch we won 3-1 and there could not have been than 1500 fans there about 30 from Reading. Little did we know then it would lead to that great day at Wembley.

Remember standing on the terrace behind the goal. I thought there were nearer 45 at the game. I, obviously, must know you!

Boston United away in the League Cup in 2004 on a Tuesday night. We went up and spent the day in Boston (nice little town) and kept seeing Reading fans, but when we got to the game there were only about 100 of us there.

Southampton.... at Home.... this season!

All the fans arrived but the first team was no where to be seen all match. After a run of so many great games it was a most obscure result!

Has to be the game v Lerskils in Sweden this summer, the Royals were pretty well supported all being considered. Got to sit next to Brian McDermott and listen to my mate discuss how good Alex Pearce was with him. Blistering hot day too.

Quite how our group found a pub/resturant within walking distance of the ground I'll never know, still proved quite an enjoyable experience 8)

I doubt if a standard league match could be described as obscure but I do remember being in the 631 at Moss Rose to see Reading play Chester. I was working in Stoke for a couple of days and I met up with Ark Royal who had been in Leeds.

For real obscurity I have to go for a friendly between Malaga and Reading in 1987 at the Rosalida. Ark Royal played for Reading that afternoon. B A S T A R D !!!!!!!

I was at that one - one of my proud boasts that I saw all the games in the Simod run. The only bit I missed was the final penalty in the semi !

And of course, I do know RwC but no idea if I know Jackson. When you think of all the people like Blackie and Denny who go to every game you could probably have a fair stab at naming the ones who were at QPR.

I was there too, and sat in front of McDermott! Fun to see Noel Hunt's first game for us. But even more obscure was the game against Lanna GoIF again in Sweden before the season in the Prem. Got to the car park then set out on a long walk through the woods down a narrow path. As we got deeper into the woods I was doubting we'd ever find Coppell and his merry men but then suddenly, a pitch appeared! and there they were! Remember Lita missing a hatful but we still won 10-0!

Probably Worthing Reserves V Reading Reserves - a 2pm ko in Worthing on a Tuesday during my student days in Brighton - it was either than or a genetics lecture.

Because of my location, if you know me in real life - you'll definately know who I am. I'm not sure I'm that well connected living on the edge of Europe. I do remember those heady days of RFC support when you literally did know everyone who went to away games.

Arsenal Reserves vs Reading Reserves at Highbury in Feb 1991.

We'd had a couple of matches snowed off so Porterfield fielded the entire first team for a reserve fixture, which happened to be Tony Adams first appearance in an Arsenal shirt subsequent to his release from prison for drink driving.

We went 2-0 up, I can recall Senior scoring at least one of them, there must have been 8,000+ of which I only counted two Royals, myself and the mate I went to the match with.

At the time, I never thought we'd play Arsenal in a real match, so the chance to see what amounted to the first team at Highbury was too good to miss.

Back before you moved though you'd have known all the faces....

I find it quite odd these days that I can go to away matches and hardly recognise anyone whereas years ago you could turn up at a game anywhere and struggle to get a moment's peace because there were too many people to talk to

Paul Black and then Tony Ella + hangers on were usually the ones I'd look out for first.
