I don't want us to be Chelsea, but I do think we should be in a better position than we currently are. How many points are we behind Wolves and Birmingham now and how close are the chasing pack? Please don't delude yourself into thinking we're "safe" and in the play offs at worse, because we really, really aren't.

If the last 6 games were the first 6 games of the season, we'd be 4th from bottom by now. But I don't blame Coppell, tbh. The poor performances are made by the players not giving their all. Okay, we may disagree with a few things that Coppell has decided upon, but he knows better than us and the players can and have been playing much much better than they are at the moment. I feel it's all about the individual performances rather than the team as a whole.

I am just laughing really. All those who begged him to stay when we needed fresh impetus in a new manager and to freshen things up.

Agreed, but we know the players are good enough and it's the management's job to bring the best out of them, which is clearly not happening. So either Coppell knows he's off soon and has lost motivation or there's something else going on behind the scenes that we don't know about.

Maybe. I can feel a win coming and I think that when we get that, we'll get the confidence back. 6 games without a win and those 600 minutes without a goal has really knocked the confidence of the players and I think that may be the problem. Now how do we get that win?

Were you by any chance one of those telling us not to panic last season when Coppell was showing a complete inability to halt a really bad run of form?

No, far from it - we're no longer even in the same division as Chelsea thanks to last year's Coppell bottlejob.

Its the managers job to build and manage the squad to minimise the number of poor performances for both individuals and the team as a whole

Currently our squad is underperforming. It has done for some time, about 18 months!!!!!!

Thats the managers fault

Has he gone?

by Turns8 » 14 Mar 2009 21:01

Just got back from having a spot of dinner at the hotel..and overheard a very interesting conversation from the table behind...Didn't realise who it was until they got up to leave and was somewhat amazed at what I overheard.

Anyway, the 3 guys on the table behind me were Howe, Downes and Dillion :o Didn't hear all of the conversation as I was too busy tucking into my whitebait, salmon, sardines and prawns, with marie rose sauce and taramasalata and ciabatta bread starter...which tbh only scored 3/10...tasted abit like yesterday's leftovers tbf...anyway, what I did hear was that Ste is apparently on the verge of quitting the club as he has reached the end of the line and having finished reading "basic football tactics for beginners" he is at a loss what to do...The club are trying to convince him to stay on in an 'upstairs' position, which will give him a chance to study "advanced tactics for the experienced coach"...as his main complaint is he doesn't have the time in his current position as he didn't realise it would include babysitting duties for grown men...

So Dillion, Downes and Howe were scribbling on a napkin and it looked like one of those spider diagrams you get in business studies books...but on closer examination it was Downes' mickey take of harper waving his arms about...but there was a list of names alongside it which I caught a glimpse of....this is the interesting bit...the names I could see were; Gregory, Deschamps, Schuster and Hoddle...the middle 2 had ??? by them and then the letter R(risky maybe)!!! the first and the last had 'Old' by them...then right at the bottom of the page there were the names Ince/curbs and a tick...

The napkin was left on the table when they all went, but the waiter cleared it away before I could snatch it and take a pic...

I did however ask the waiter how long they had been there and he said about an hour and that Coppell had been there until he got a phonecall and left hurriedly...shaking there hands almost like a farewell...

Anyway, then my main arrived brie/mushroom and asparagus pie with roasted veg and new potatoes which I started to eat...but having just witnessed the meeting aswell as the awful match...I started to feel sick and sent the meal back...asked for the bill for the starter...complained about it and only paid 50% skillz 8) and got the drinks for free word

As I was leaving I noticed that there was a cardboard box in Coppell's parking space, so I couldn't resist stopping and having a peek..it was fairly empty apart from a broken Championship winners mug (minus handle), and manager's jacket which had a rip down the sleeve oh and an envelope with the words 'Ste all the best' written on it and inside was 7p in change (maybe this was like an office whip round)...I left it all in place and went back into the hotel and asked if i could borrow a candle...which I placed in the parking space with a little note

I'm gutted and have already spent 20mins on the phone to the samaritans....

I think it comes down to the point that unless you are Sir Alex or Wenger every manager has his sell by date, there is no doubt that SSC has atken the club to heights all us aged long term supporters could only have imagined. The values of him going now are that with a new man at the helm most teams pick their games up and go on a bit of a run of success, with 9 games left that could make it very interesting and also he can have the time to consider his player options for the next season. If we don't get a positive result at Doncaster next Tuesday then I would not be at all surprised if he is not here for the next match.

Even Fergie and Wenger have had their moments

When Fergie let it be known that he was off at the end of the season Utd suffered and looked like they were just playing out time to see what happened next

Wenger looks like he might be getting close to the end of an era at arsenal too, dont forget they havent won much recently

I blame the turkey and Christmas Pudding for our current plight.
Since Boxing Day our record is played 13 Won 3, Drawn 6, Lost 4. For 13. Against 13. Points 15. This must be just about the worst in the division and if the season had started then we would be nearly bottum. What makes it worse is that of the13 games NINE have been at HOME, so it is poorer than it might first appear.
The manager seems completly unable to turn things around. There was a glimmer of hope when we beat Sheffield Wed. but then we only manage a draw against a poor Plymouth side when we were easily the better side. Then with two quite winnable home games to follow we manage just a point against a sure to be relegated Charlton.
I was totally amazed when I read this week that Kitson and Littler were coming back on loan this from a manager who when he should use the loan system (JAN 08) doesn't. They are hasbeens and contributed NOTHING in the last half of last season. One thinks of the captain of the TITANIC.
When one reads the reports of games(which I rely a lot on being domiciled in Devon) the performances of the players involved very so much everybody seems to have their favourites and players they do not like but we must remember football is a team game and it is the manager who makes the desicions that effect that team. Since the begining of last year so many have been wrong by our manager so he has to be primarily to blame. I do not think we can move on until he goes everything is so STALE at the moment and that is the problem.
