IF, big if, he's going to stay and he gets a suitable foil to play alongside him, I think the most suited member of the current playing staff is still Harper.

I'm not sure he wants to do the off-field bits and pieces that the club captain has to do but on the pitch I think he's the most natural choice, just in front of Ingimarrson who I don't think will be the automatic choice he has been in the past.

Most likely though the new manager will come in and hopefully sign few stronger characters and leaders to strengthen the spine of the team. One of these will hopefully be the natural leader we've missed since last season.

Long term, if they're both still here and develope as they can, I think Pearce and Karacan will become future captains.

abell But seriously I'd go for Armstrong - 1st name on the team sheet when he's fit, lots of geeing up on the pitch & sensible in front of the press.
Good call, player of the season!

Not sure, but Harper should be deputy. Still don't get the Ivar as captain thing.

Whoever it is they have to be reasonably expereinced and intelligent, which rules out virtually all of our squad unfortunately.

Looking above, I was think Armstrong, but didn't want to say as he's relatively new. But I'd be happy for him to get it.

I still don't get the Harper thing. It's like giving the village idiot the job of governing the country. He isn't a leader. He's a great character, but never a captain.

Exactly why I said deputy.

It is my view and I know plenty disagree, that he is extremely good at organising and has a good awareness of the game situation. He may be a bit thick, but he has a great attitude and is very positive and enthusiastic and I think he has a pretty good footballing brain.

Doesn't get stuck in enough, and isn't smart enough to be the actual captain. But I think he makes an excellent deputy. He isn't enough on the pitch on his own. But I think he makes a captain's job much easier.

nickbob_sexypants Why not Jay Tabb? From the last few games he looked like someone who would lead by example by getting stuck into the game. Wasnt he also the Coventry captain when he was signed?

Not sure if he was the Cov captain

Great shout though!

Don't you roll your eyes at me...
Think you're nuts even making him a deputy. I don't think we have many options though either.

Tabb, this is a fresh start and therefore it doesnt matter how long a players been here, hell on a different matter maybe getting rid of old timers is a good thing as then nobody feels they are bigger than the club and it removes rot from the squad.

Anyway tabb looked the most commited man on the pitch during the playoffs and he seems a true professional, and he has to be guaranteed a starting place, therefore he makes the most sense.

Too quiet though.

Edit: And I don't think he's good enough to be a regular anymore.

What is the point of a captain?

There should be 11 leaders on the pitch. Each and every one taking responsibility.

I'd go with Tabb. I think it was Schards who said he reminded him of Ray houghton. I agree. He looks the part to me. Totally committed, strong tackler, good player pushing forward. Leads by example.Give him the arm-band. He's one of the few to be certain of a starting place come August.

The season finished for us 2 days ago. We don't have a manager and the speculation surrounding who could be on their way out is mental. At this time I think that it is safe to say that no-one can be certain of a starting place come August.

Don't think he's been fantastic for a couple of seasons. I think people have assumed he was playing great because his exit coincided with a slip in form. I haven't been impressed with him for a fair while.

Ray Houghton was diabolical for us.
