the 'divers' chant
The score cards
'What a waste of money'
'Cheats'
'Hunt is gonna get ya'

Predicktable.

if somebody gave me a straight choice now, Didcot Town away or Newcastle away, you can only go to one of them, i honestly think i would plump for Didcot.

handbags_harris Couldn't have chosen a worse club IMO. This is the first time in years that I have considered not going to the pre-season main event. It's even worse than last season when, 6 and 7 months after being soundly beaten by them in the league, we get Villa as our "prestigious" main pre-season event. How to add insult to injury.

Who were you hoping for, out of interest?

Anyone BUT Chelsea.

I'd like to see us going back to having relatively big names in European football coming to the Madejski. Surely it wouldn't be too much to ask a team like, say, Atletico Madrid, PSV, Fiorentina etc to come to the Madejski. We did it with Feyenoord, why not some others?

One word - cost.

Most "name" European clubs want a fee to come and play a friendly esp if the opposition are not in the top flight - it's one of the reasons the Celtic game got pulled.

Chelsea probably won't want much of a fee, it's a low cost friendly for them being so close but will offer them the right sort of test whilst pushing our guys the week before the season - not necessarily the club I'd have gone for but as a friendly it does make perfect sense.

The cost is the obvious factor, but I wonder how much it would actually cost for each club? But if we want close-by top flight opposition, then:

Arsenal >>>>>>>>>>>>> Spurs > West Ham > Portsmouth >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Chelsea.

Agreed, but sadly this part of the world has a very large proportion of Chelsea fans which means more £££ through the gate for a glorified training session.

Anything I say on here about Chelsea is how I feel about that particular club. I don't engage in fishing trips, there's people out there who enjoy it much more than I do. I have much better things to do with my time than be a HNA WUM.

Pretty disappointed with playing this lot in a friendly really, just out of principle. They represent absolutely everything wrong with football - ridiculous sums of money distorting competition and a set of players who neatly sum up where the human race goes wrong.
