Royal Boil It serves to remind me why I don't post on this board that often.

Royal Boil Hmm. Perhaps my choice of words has unwittingly exposed the intellectual shortcomings of the current younger generation who are more used to direct examination questions that simply require a yes/no/dunno answer and any number of chances to be force-fed the correct answer by their teachers and lobbing off dismissive replies, rather than actually taking a moment to think about what the question really means. RoyalLee was the only one that really "got" it. If I'd asked something like "Have the good times ended or are they just starting" then maybe that would have been set more at the level of the students here who have finished their first year of Media Studies at Bournemouth Uni or whatever, and they might have gotten the point of it. It serves to remind me why I don't post on this board that often.

Speaking as somebody who has set exam questions at a Russell Group uni, you're talking crap. As anybody who has in fact set an exam knows, ask a stupid question and you'll get back stupid answers.

ZacNaloen To be fair in an informal environment there is nothing wrong with using slang.

FiNeRaIn I dont think any era has changed. Another yes man has come in who won't challenge the piss poor budget we have and will be JM's lap dog. Don't expect any ambitious signings as usual. Same era, new manager.

Gotten is neither slang nor, as many believe, an Americanism it is archaic English appearing in both Chaucer and Shakespeare or some such shit, innit.

Just to keep this thread well and truly off topic (but more interesting than still slagging off Coppell), the OED refers to neither, but does cite a use of 'geten' as early as 1340. So there you go.
