Brentford obviously.
We had to get the draw or we didn't go up .

In the 106 season, we knew we were going up sooner or later. And weren't we up anyway due to a result somewhere else ?
The whole the 2nd half of that season was amazing. The Leicester game was just a date. And an unmemorable game compared to some of the games either side.

wickedwhispers Small packed terrace end at Griffin Park> big plastic stadium full of plastic Reading fans.

100% agreed.

I was lucky enough to goto both and Brentford was much more enjoyable. The atmosphere was awesome. Full of people who wanted to be there to support the team. Not like Leicester, where (certain) people only wanted to see RFC promoted to the Prem for the 1st time (which is a fair enough reason btw). It kind of reminded me of the Highbury match where (certain) people were there only because it was the last opportunity to have a reason to get to Highbury before it got demolished.

On a side note - getting to Brentford was a piece of piss and the weather was very good to us on an open terrace. Leicester was a shit drive up there - there were problems on the A34 or M40 getting up there, and the journey back was rain all the way

The leicester game encapsulated a while season whereas Brentford was shit or bust, so Leicester did have the sense of inevitability about it,

However if you go back to the Leicester game with 4000 fans fans singing for an hour after the game edges it for me

Ok, maybe my wording can be interpreted not in the way it was intended. I'm no elitist, and I have never claimed to be one. But if your gonna quote me at least do me the decency of quoting the whole sentence. I was merely justifying why I (and I alone) thought the Brentford game was better than the Leicester game seeing as I was lucky enough to witness both games.

Leicester will be the one and only time we go up to the top flight, I'd seen us promoted from lower tiers before but this was special.

I for one loved the days in league 1. I've totally lost interest now.

Gone are the days when we invaded the pitch at Walsall and alike.

wickedwhispers Which did you prefer?

Personally for me it was Brentford. I miss those small intimate grounds. These days it just isn't the same.

Silly question. For the day and what it meant to everyone connected with Reading Football Club - Leicester. Amazing day, all of it, and very emotional.

Whether it was or not, it'll always be the first time we were promoted to the top tier, and so uniquely special.

I'd go for 2006, because the way things worked out in the end was phenomenal - promoted away at Leicester so the away supporters got to see that, and then champions at home the following week so the whole ground got to share in it. Liek so much esle that season you couldn't have planned it any better.

Brentford away. It will always be the greatest sporting day of my life (and I was at Lords last week). Early doors in the Fullers boozer next to Ealing Broadway, the bl**dy long walk up to the ground, the game, Curo's goal, the final whistle, visiting pretty much every boozer on the way back to Ealing Broadway, the train journey back to Reading, the scene outside of the Guineas upon arrival (all the hardcore fans of years gone by celebrating & singing & drinking).....and finally, the After Dark....a sea of blue & white, RFC songs, 80s classics, Red Stripe, sweat pouring off everybody.....just the greatest day ever.

same here. Leicester was far more enjoyable. Brentford was just horribly tense and nervy and it was more of a sense of relief.

I felt prouder at Leicester than at any other time of supporting Reading. It may have been inevitiable, and the goal that "clinched" promotion in reality wasn't even required, but it took us to a level we hadn't been before.

I would guess also that for many saying Brentford, it was their first experience of promotion, but it was my third at that level, so the one at the higher level meant that bit more,

The nerves and tension at Brentford was one of the reasons why, for me, that game just edges it over Leicester.

You may be right about some, but I had seen Reading promoted (and relegated) several times prior to the Brentford promotion.

Do you truly believe that there weren't many plastics at the Brentford game? I presume by plastics, you mean people who go just to the big / local away games? If our average away attendance at that time was 500, let's say, and the away end at Brentford held approximately 2000, that's 3/4 of them that were 'plastics'.

I've got news for you, plastics have always existed. It's just that name that hasn't.

I wasn't tense at all at Brentford. Probably because I was wasted.
