I misread the poll and thought that the question referred to the first half of the 08/09 season  . So I voted LESS points. Now I read the question properly.....I'd still vote for LESS actually. Steep learning curve I fear, and that in no way should be taken as a slur on Rodgers.

Royal Rother Ian, change your approach - this is not sophisticated statistical analysis chap!!

On other threads people are saying that, having shipped out most of Coppell's established players, and now brought "his own" players in, the squad we have now is weaker than the one we had at the end of last season.

I maintain it is not and thought it would be a vaguely amusing diversion to see what others think and to measure it as the season progresses.

To include the 1st 5 games of this season, i.e. BEFORE those squad changes had been made would make the exercise even more futile / irrelevant than it already is.

Don't like it, makes no sense, hurts my head.

Lies, damn lies and statistics. Who cares about 23 games? No doubt you chose that because that's when the slump set in last year.

I don't care what the points comparison is, all I care about is where the team finish at the end of the season. Do I think they'll equal or better last year's team? No I don't.

Fine, compare it with the 1st half of last season then. That won't prove anything either.

Royal Rother Do you think this new squad will get more or less points in the next 23 games than the points accumulated in the last 23 games of Coppell's team?

Ignore the 1st 5 games of the season, the ongoing discussion that inspired this poll is about the merits of Rodgers' new look post-deadline day squad -v- Coppell's last squad.

This is completely stupid and a repeat of numerous other threads.

Facts -

We have a new manager.
He wants to do things his way.
We needed to sell off the old 'Premier League' players to balance the books.
On a limited budget he will buy the players he chooses.

Can't you get excited about the prospect of trying for the PL again?

And haven't you the patience to give Brendan Rodgers a season or two?

And, by the way, I want to vote for exactly the same number of points.

And where was that option in your silly little poll?

Right, I'm going for Fewer, because I find it difficult to believe we'll get much more than 65 points and I think we'll have a better 2nd half of the season.

Although that's a bit blurry given the stupid discounting of the first 5 games.

Does it really matter which 23 games are picked? They're never going to be exactly the same are they?

Well yes, otherwise you'd just pick the 23 with the highest/lowest points total to prove your point.

Good grief. Great big LOL at some very strange responses recently!! :|Phil and Rotherwick particularly! Dear oh dear.

It's NOT a serious poll people - just a simple straightforward question that requires no deep thinking whatsoever. I chose 23 game slots because I wanted to - if you think it's daft just piss off to another thread where the analysis of what has happened recently is repetitive battling between the same posters saying the same things over and over again!

If you like naval gazing that's where you belong, not here. This is meant to be light relief from all that.

Ok, back to basics - we have a weaker team than this time last year.

I believe we will continue to improve, but not at a rate to reach Rodger's target (i.e. top 6) and we won't match the points total (even if you give them even more leeway of another 5 matches to take into account the fact that the new team need time to gel.)

(Perhaps Reading should appeal to the FA for a points addition due to our opponents claiming points for pre-season games)

Well yes, otherwise you'd just pick the 23 with the highest/lowest points total to prove your point.

At least they're consecutive in both cases here and - bar the 5 games you're quibbling about - they carry on from each other. You could start another thread and ask whether the next 23 games would get more or less points as the start of last season, to which the answer would probably be less, but it's always going to be a bit arbitrary isn't it?
