bigshaka'away' What a stupid thing to say...

No its not OK losing, its not ok to lose and make progress, if you lose 3-2 or 1-o rather thatn 3-0 its still no points and still depressing. There are no excuses for being as bad as we are now, and its not fine to say we are making progress so its ok to lose. Winning breeds confidence and results - now thats progress.

Maybe, but if it was that easy to be perfect from day one don't you think everyone would be doing it?

PEARCEY
Thaumagurist* I do reckon that it's still too early to be worrying about relegation, but yes, we do need to get out of the habit of losing very soon.

True..but we have some very tough games coming up. Preston, QPR and West Brom away.
We have to beat Watford on Saturday otherwise the table could look a lot worse a month down the line.

I understand the thread, and to a certain degree agree. I am worried by just how much Rodgers chops and changes each game - an average of three team changes per league game, and a change in formation three times in eight games. I don't understand how Rodgers feels he can get results with a change in personnel and formation game by game. It worries me, and frustrates me at the same time. We've gone from one extreme to the other in Coppell and Rodgers.

If you experiment and lose games, nobody cares except that the manager has got it wrong. If you keep experimenting, chopping and changing, trying to find the right formula game by game, and still lose then people also lose something - patience. I was more than happy to give Rodgers time to find his best side, but after eight games the time has now come to start delivering some positive results. Performances are one thing, but you need the results to back them up, and we're not producing the latter.

I'm sorry but a manager is paid to win games that's his job and that's what he's going to have to do.We can't sack him after eight games but the excuses have to stop and I'm sure Rodgers would agree with that himself.

I agree that Rogers needs time to rebuild. And I think most of us have always been willing to accept mid table this season while he does that. But there is no such thing as the luxury of losing: rebuilding has to include some wins.

I became fed up with hearing on here last year how bad this league was, when the fact is that every team was hard to beat at one time or another (except perhaps Sheffield Wednesday). There are no easy games, as Peterborough showed. At the present time, no team looks an easy prospect, not excluding Ipswich and Plymouth. If we want the luxury of losing while we rebuild, we will go down. And I will personally shoot with a crossbow anyone who comes on here to suggest that going down may somehow be a good thing in the long run. Football is about winning and about entertaining the fans, who can't be expected to keep coming in decent numbers if the team is unsuccessful.

2 world wars, 1 world cup You'll be forgiven for thinking this is an anti-BR thread coming from me but it's not. It will be controversial though.

I for one am very happy with what BR is doing. I'm quite impressed actually.

Why?

Because he has the balls to try different players, different formations, different tactics. He is CLEARLY trying to experiment with as much as he can so he GETS IT RIGHT.

What would people rather? He arbitrarily decides who the good and bad players after just 5 mins of being here and puts them into a rigid formation every week and never really gets it right?

Or he takes the opportunity to try different things now?

I'd rather we lose the next 10 games in a row and do badly most of this season and just scrape survival but he LEARNS huge amounts and sets us up for the future than he shuts up shop every time we snatch a lucky lead and end up with a mediocre run of a couple of wins, a lot of draws ( tyring to hold onto them so as not to upset fans) and remain none the wiser about our squad.

BRENDAN - carry on experimenting mate. I'd rather you experiment now, even if it means losses and inevitably bad decisions, than you play it safe for the sake of fans.

Brilliant, brilliant post. Thanks for making me realise that I'm not the only one who thinks this way.

Dorset-Knob No, no, no, its been done before, 1914-18 the Lions, led by Donkeys, to the slaughter!
Sensless, wasteful and as always the suffering was done by the common man. Never again!

Why in god names do we need to lose MORE games so that the man with the big watch and tank top can try out different stuff...???

Let me give you a clue...

...this is what the training ground is for?

The sooner this mad fool is gone and the quicker the guy with no hair stops pissing around playing golf or with goats and comes back, then the better for all.

I don't ever want Reading to lose. On the other hand, perhaps it's best that Rodgers succeeds or decisively fails. In the second case we could then replace him. The worst case scenario is that he wins the odd game now and then, so that no one quite knows whether he's succeeding or failing, becoming a sort of Simon Davey.

How long do you propose we carry on losing, in order to give the tinkerman more time to get settled?

But your point was far too subtle for Spacey. He was probably lining up the insults the moment he saw the headline!

If only BR was able to change formation during the game. At the start of the season I was excited about the prospect of a Plan B as BR had spoken about 433, f51 and other such formations. Obviously, I was mistaken to read this as evidence of flexibility mid game.

I criticised SSC and co for the lack of flexibility last season. We are no nearer to a Plan B this. BR spoke after the Donny game that they changed formation 3 times. Boro changed things on Saturday. Cardiff changed last Wednesday. Sheff Utd changed tactics against us.
