LOL at comparing this game against Liverpool at the games against Scunny, Cardiff and Leicester. We played against a top side today and matched them all over the park. We created a couple of chances against a far superior defence and largely controlled one of the best strikers in the world. Torres looked class and stretched us to our full, but Mills and Ivar coped better than most Premiership pairings.

If we had played to that level as a team in the 3 games you've mentioned, we would have almost certainly won.

Equally, if we play that well in only half our league games this season, we will almost certainly stay up.

The trouble is, I'm not convinced we will.

Torres looked pissed off, not really into the game and well below par.

This is the dawning of nothing.

We've always known that Reading can up their game against the really big teams, especially in front of a record crowd at home with absolutely nothing to lose whatsoever.

This game has nothing to do with our championship struggle.

As far as that is concerned it's still there and still real and we'll play just as badly as we always have.

The only plus from this game might be a bit of confidence but that will be quickly shattered once again as soon as we let a goal in again.

I fear this will be used as justification to give BM the job for the end of the season despite having even less of a record than the 27-game wonderkid. We need to get someone who has experience and is up for a challenge NOW.

Royalwaster Yes fine, but do you really think that this is it - that we'll now start scoring goals at home with ease?

No but the point is if the players can play like that against the rest of the fodder that makes up the 2nd Division they'll easily survive relegation

Trouble is getting them to perform at that level week in and week out in games where the result DOES matter and against teams who will pack their defences and/or not give the space the likes of Liverpool allow.

Same story as most of the rest of the season. Played well, in fact dominated much of the game, but couldn't get the final ball or shot right. We looked much more like scoring than Liverpool but that doesn't say much.

Leaked a soft soft goal.

Nothing has changed except that a draw against Liverpool, shit as they were, may be enough to boost confidence.

Agree with that - feel we need a manager who knows how to survive a relegation dogfight as that's what we're going to be in I fear. If we were more mid-table I'd not hesitate to give the job to McD as I really like his approach. Just feel it's too much of a risk. After all he's not yet won a single game for us.

BMcD's only had three games though. It took Rodgers six (ignoring Burton as they were so far below us in quality it's pointless to count them) to get a win. And he had all preseason to work with them and go into the season with confidence off the back of a good performance against Chelsea having made a number of his own signings.

Gonna be pretty tricky to get a win any time soon though.
