My first Reading league game in Aug/Sep 1967 against Stockport. They had won the fourth division the previous season and i remember their fans singing 'We are the Champions', which i thought was crazy because they'd only won Div 4. There was no segregation and the Stockport fans were in the South Stand (I was in the Town End). I remember that they were loud, but I can't remeber the Reading fans making any noise at all. We won 3-0.

Before that, when we lived in London, my Dad (an Arsenal fan) took me to a couple of Arsenal games in the early Sixties, but I was never really hooked until I went to Elm Park. Life's strange!!

rhroyal For me it was Reading v Grimsby on 12th October 1996 in the old(ish) Division 1. Hardly a glamour tie but I enjoyed the game. A Trevor Morley penalty gave us the lead but we threw it away to finish at 1-1.

This game, rather bizarrely, I have quite vivid memories of. The first half was a non-event, but the second half sprung to life and in truth we should have put four or five past Grimsby as we (well, mainly Trevor Morley) went through one-on-one on two or three occasions but their 'keeper (Jason Pearcey) played a blinder. In the end it was, as you say, a penalty that gave us the lead around the hour mark but Darren Wrack fired in a decent equaliser from 20 yards on with five minutes to go.

Just had a quick look on Soccerbase to see what the team was that day:

1) Tommy Wright
2) Martyn Booty
3) Paul Bodin
4) Keith McPherson
5) Barry Hunter
6) Jeff Hopkins
7) Michael Gilkes
8) James Lambert
9) Trevor Morley
10) Darren Caskey
11) Mick Gooding

We also had Lee Nogan, Michael Meaker on the bench, and Martin Williams came on as sub after the equaliser.

Anyway, my first game - November 1989, Reading 1-1 Bristol. Trevor Senior scored for Reading, David Rennie I think it was scored for Bristol City.

I must be close to, if not over 1000 games now and i'm amazed how many i random moments can remember from games in the 80's (real detail). I only seem to remember the very good or very bad nowadays.

Wish i'd had the same interest in my education back in the 80's!!

1987 Reading 2-0 Gillingham, Senior & Horrix.

A very sunny day, free tickets courtesy of RFC visiting my brother's year at school. Half time pasty. Biggest regret was not buying a matchday programe, second biggest regret was not listing down details of all games attended as that might be an interesting stat. Parents reading please buy your kids a programe at their first game and keep it safe until they are adults. Also make a note of all games attended with dates and scores as they will thank you for this in later life.

Had a chat to Trevor Senior about this a couple of seasons ago, He remembers the game in absolute detail (and all games he's played in) - better than me in fact, which is a surprise considering how many games he's played.

First game was Arsenal 3 Wolves 1 in 1969. Derek Dougan scored for Wolves, Bob Wilson in goal for Arsenal - don't remember much else (except that it was different to Subbuteo).

First Reading game was FA Cup match against Newcastle in 1990. Got tickets from the local radio station in return for a charitable donation. 3-3 draw, but I thought they hammered us and we got lucky three times. Didn't stop me getting a season ticket.

20th September 1969

Reading v Bournemouth ( Home ) 2-0

Can't remember who scored..............Chappell, Habbin or Cumming ( ) probably.

http://www.statto.com/football/stats/en ... 1970-02-23

After my birthday on 23rd Feb 1970 Reading proceeded to blow it and finished 8th ( )

Hence my cynicism began....................

My first game was Denis Allen's testimonial 1972 (I think). Bobby Moore, Geoff Hurst, Martin Peters and several other big names all played. A cracking goal from Gordon Cummings gave Reading the lead. It finished 3-3. My first league game was v Torquay Utd a few weeks later. We won 2-1. Cummings volleyed the winner. I thing Dick Habbin scored the first. The first 4 games I went to all the opposing teams wore yellow, and I wondered if there was some sort of rule about opposing sides always having to wear yellow.

Don't want to nitpick, but it's Gordon Cumming (without the 's' )

I can't remember my first game, because my dad used to take me when I was very young. I think my first memory is a game against Brentford. Dougie Webb was knocked unconscious just in front of where I was on the wall, and I remember being frightened by it. This would have been in the early sixties.

It was a mild April afternoon in 1986 and I was wearing the bodywarmer my nan had knitted me for me out of my grandad's belly-button fluff. We played Derby and won 1-0, with Senior getting the winner. I don't remember much about the game, but I do remember enjoying all the colours and noise, staring up at the flood lights which weren't switched on and the smell of pipe smoke.
